I ran across this problem (?) while working on my plastic engine cover delete project. With the car stationary (park) the engine will not rev past 4,000 RPM. This is with the engine cover in place and also with my new air intake system in place. Took the car for a spin and it rev'd normally to 6,000 RPM and above.

Is this another automatic feature built into this vehicle ? I've never heard of this before. If you work on your own car, as many here do, this is something you need to know. If I hadn't taken the car for a spin I would have concluded that there was a problem. It felt exactly like a car with a partially plugged catalytic convertor. Can someone verify this GM perversion ?

Yes it is a rev limiter when the computer reads no forward speed and high engine rpm(among a few other parameters). Almost all makes have this safety feature since the early 2000's.
