Complaint was: "transmission not shifting properly, harsh shifting between first and second gear" I also brought copies of several service bulletins relating to hard shifting.

These are the parts replaced:

1 x 24244406 VALVE,CONT (W/ BODY & VLV) w/4-SPD A/TRANS
1 x 24225825 Press Control Solenoid Valve
1 x 24244404 Valve Body Kit
12 x 88861003 Transmission Fluid

Mechanic notes:

Road tested and verified customer concerns. DTC P1811. Performed as outlined in Bulletin #07-07-30-025 . R & I (remove and inspect?) transmission. Replaced valve body due to sticking 1-2 shift valve. Erased DTC. Flushed cooler lines Code # CADAEC6. Topped off fluid. Road tested 5 miles. Transmission operating normal. Final test no DTCS.

Total cost to warranty company: 409.47 Parts/ 819.00 Labor

They had the car from 5/1 to 5/11 - I had a rental car from 5/7 to 5/11. Rental car was paid for by the extended warranty company.

Heres the fun part...

While waiting for the car to be brought out so I can leave, the person bringing it out loses control of the car... LONG story short... they said the power steering was basically going on and off and it was really hard to control the car.. so.. they did not let me leave with the car obviously.. not that I would have wanted to... they asked me several times if I was having any problems when I brought the car in and I said no.. so they gave me another rental car. The only good thing is this time the dealership is picking up the tab for the rental so I dont have to get it approved every 24 hours by the warranty company...

be glad it happened while they were driving it...ive heard alot of stories of the dealership not being able to reproduce the problem. Glad its getting fixed
Man I got a laugh out of that one!

So many people go to the dealer and their response is UH....Nothing wrong..when they know damn well thousands of G6's have this problem.

They should fix all that stuff for free even the tranny problem as that is a common one.

I can see headlines now.

GM service tech killed in repair bay due to G6 steering failure. GM denies any problems.

Wow....
Are the transmissions in these cars a fairly regular problem. I am having problem with mine on my GXP. It took taking it to 3 dealers for them to admit there was a problem. They said because there wasnt a check engine light that there was nothing wrong. It goes back in Monday to the dealer that said something is definently wrong, even without a check engine light. How many miles are on your GTP?

The car has approximately 37,000 miles. The engine light never came on. Check the service bulletins here: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/tsbs/
There are several that deal with the transmission. I printed them and brought them with me and they said that one of the service bulletins was specifically the problem i had... I wonder if I didnt bring those in would they have found the problem.....

I think the transmission had been running badly for quite a while before I brought it in... honestly i figured they would just say oh we dont find a problem... I actually had several other people drive the car to confirm that they also thought it was running badly and had another person go with me to the dealership to give me moral support lol....

Wow....
Let me tell you! it was quite a comedy... the "valet" or whatever hes called who just gets your keys and goes and gets your car, almost crashed the car... gets out of the car freaking out... finds a service guy who insists on driving the car himself to check it out almost crashes the car.... I was SO happy that it didnt happen after I left... since it wasnt hapening when I brought the car in for the transmission and started happening while THEY were driving it... the dealership gave me a loaner car... the warranty company would NOT have given me a rental for several days at least...

Well its now 5/14... this happened on 5/11... they havent even called me once... Im not going to bother calling them -- might call them on Monday... but for now its fine since i have the loaner car... also the loaner car takes flex fuel so its 40 cents a gallon cheaper, lol.
...so did you get anything good for a loaner??
I wish -- its a cadillac dealership lol... but the choice was a 2009 g6 sedan or a 2009 malibu or a 2010 impala... I took the impala since it had the flex fuel and thats 40 or so cents cheaper a gallon here lol...

When it was in for the transmission problem they gave me a BARE bones 2009 cobalt... when I say bare bones I mean it lol, didnt even have power anything and no mirrors in the visor lol.. I must be dating myself here but ive never owned a car with the crank window thing lol... i didnt even think they made those any more...
Well... they have had the car for the steering issue since 5/11. They called me yesterday 5/18 to say that they were replacing the "whole steering system". This was the first thing I had been told since 5/11... I'm not sure what they mean by "whole steering system". I dont know what the "diagnosis" was...

I also dont know if they are doing the repair themselves since it broke while they were driving it after having the entire engine out of the car for several days.. or if they have submitted it to the warranty company... I was going to call the warranty company and ask but I figured I will just wait until the car is ready and they give me all the paperwork...

Unfortunately with this being the third major repair this year, Ive decided to get rid of the car ASAP. So -- we will see what happens.
hey whats up everybody. my name is kc as you can tell and i had a question. wondering if any one can help.. my girlfriend bought her G6 new. we havent had any problems with it yet that i could nt seem to fix by myself. i have read alot of your guys' blogs and conversations and just tonite, she called and said her power steering came on her onboard screen(on the radio) say power steering. and in the last few weeks that we have drove the car i have noticed a slight sounds like one of the pulley's are getting bad. then i over heard someone say that the g6's have electronic steering? is this true? or do they have fluid and a resevior? she live about 4 hours from me and kinda worried about her driving it. so can anyone answer my questions? is there cronic problems of these cars having shitty steering systems? do they have a resevior where i can show her to check or what the deal? and it is too damn risky for her to drive it every day/
I got my car back today...

Interesting stuff...

Reminder that I was picking up the car on 5/11 and never actually got the car... car broke in their custody... I last had the car on 5/1 when I brought it in for transmission problems...

The paperwork says I brought the car in on 5/12 a 808 am "customer states power steering binds and gets hard while driving" ... i never said that... I didnt even drive the car...

"Cause: rack seal leaking"

Parts replaced:

1 x 89020661 fluid
1 x 20905468 gear assembley.
Steering gear replacement.

Interesting though... everything says NO CHARGE or 0.00

Nothing about calling my warranty company or warranty approval or payment from warranty...

All other invoices for warranty work had prices and reflected approval from warranty company etc..

so... they didnt charge the warranty co ???

Also they provided a loaner car for totally free from 5/11 to 5/24 ... also dealership paid for loaner car.. did not charge the warranty company for it...

interesting?

Well... I just came to let everyone know that I sold my car as soon as I got it back from shop. I was very sad to see it go, I just felt like I could no longer trust the car. When I got it back it was obvious that the jerky shifting had not been fully resolved and also the car now had a rattle upon ignition. Also, the radio didnt work at all, seemed like when they took it apart they may have disconnected something... So i just said enough is enough and traded it in.
holy shit! I would have been livid!!! I would have had all that fixed before selling the car lol
