The convertible trunk has two opening modes. The 'reverse clam' when the top is to be moved and the more normal access to the trunk space for luggage etc. I am going to guess that
Continuing with the same assumptions, I would guess that how the car got into this state is the top would not secure using the hydraulics. Someone has manually locked the roof into place using the manual access cover in the front center of the headliner. As one of the steps before the top is locked is for the trunk to close and lock, this part would not be completed. Thus the top is in a position / state that is unexpected and the folding top module will lock out any movement.
Assuming my guesses seem reasonable so far, to fix the top you will probably need to consider the following:-
refers to the fact that you can reverse open the trunk by hand, but that the normal mode of accessing the trunk is secure / latched and will not unlatch. If this is the case you are seeing the interlocks preventing the trunk lid from falling off the car if it gets released at both ends.

- Whilst you have access to the trunk, check the hydraulic fluid level and bring it back to the max mark if required (about half way up the bottle). Pentosin CHF 11s is the fluid you will need.
- If the fluid was low / empty, most likely there is a leak that caused at least part of the malfunction. Checking the cylinders may reveal which one(s). The main rams that move the roof are the most common to fail.
- If the fluid is OK and assuming someone else didn't top it off, you may be looking at a sense switch issue. To diagnose this you will really need access to an advanced scan tool that supports the folding top module. This will tell you the condition of the switches etc.
