do you have the child saftey lock on? I had a similar problem and once i turned the CSL off, it worked fine.
At first i thought the actuator was going out. But i lucked out. The part you have to buy from the dealer, appx $113, (atleast around here noone carried it) but you can install it yourself if you are savy at diy.
You can find them for less online if you're willing to spend some time looking. They go by more than one name in online catalogs: latches, actuators, can't remember the others right now. Each door's latch/actuator has a unique part number. The numbers can be found here in a thread somewhere. The first one you replace may be a challenge depending on how much of a do-it-yourselfer you are. After that, you'll be able to do the others easily. And they will all fail over time. Learning to do them yourself will save you a good chunk of change.
But the solution to mine was to turn off the child safety lock and I have had no issues since. After speaking with my father he explained how if bumped just right, the CSL can interfere with the locking/unlocking mechanisms within the door. (He has 30+ years experience in this field)
I've never run across that issue myself. Probably because so few people ever use that feature. At any rate, this is how that system is supposed to work per the 08 owner's manual:
Rear Door Security Locks
Your vehicle has rear door security locks, that prevent
passengers from opening the rear doors from the inside.
The rear door security locks are located on the inside
edge of each rear door. You must open the rear doors to
To assist you in finding the lock, your vehicle will have
one of the following:
To use these locks, do the following:
1. Insert the key into the security lock slot and turn it
so the slot is in the horizontal position.
2. Close the door.
3. Do the same for the other rear door.
When you want to open a rear door when the security
lock is on, do the following:
1. Unlock the door using the remote keyless entry
transmitter, if the vehicle has one, the power door
lock switch, or by lifting the rear door manual lock.
2. Open the door from the outside.
