Hello ladies & gentlemen I have a 2009 g6 that a while ago just stopped cranking won't run. Isn't the battery as I replaced it and I have power to the dash and windows. Had a mechanic come look at it and he jumped the starter and had it running for about 2 seconds or so before it stopped. He thought it was a security problem so I eventually towed it to the dealer. Turns out it was and the theft module went bad which was stopping it from running. Well instead of paying the $600 to the dealer. A friend recommended me to this site newrockies.com which sells a bypass unit that would eliminate the security. Installed it and everything fine but the next step is to do a relearn. The problem with that is it's like the car wont go through the relearn process. Turn the key to on and then try to crank and then release it back to on and the security should stay on for 10 minutes you wait and then cut off for 5 seconds and you repeat the steps 3x. My problem is the security light goes off maybe a second after I release the key. Could I be doing something wrong? Is that not the reset procedure for a 2009 g6? Don't want to send it back to the dealer but it seems I may have to :(.

Basic key relearn procedure:

- Insert the key and turn the ignition on. Do not attempt to start the vehicle.

- Bump the starter over by rotating the ignition key to Crank, but do not start the vehicle. Allow key to return to the Run position.
Note the security indicator lamp.It will remain on for approximately 8 to 15 minutes. This is the first password communication stage.

- When the security indicator lamp turns off, turn the ignition key to the Off position. Wait 10 seconds.

-Turn the ignition key to the Run position. Note the security indicator lamp. It may flash for a few seconds, then turn on solid. It will remain on for approximately 8 to 15 minutes. This is the second password communication stage.

- When the security indicator lamp turns off, turn the ignition key to the Off position. Wait 30 seconds.

- Turn the ignition key to the Run position, pause momentarily, then turn the key to the Crank position. If the engine starts and runs normally, the VTD Relearn procedure is complete

Thanks for the reply waterfowler. That's the problem when I release the key back to run. The Security telltale will turn on then after maybe a second or two it will turn off which I think is preventing the relearn for whatever reason.
I can run a hot wire to the ignition fuse and it starts. Otherwise No crank no start any suggestions?

Same but what if fuse do u put power to make it crank I have no voltage at ignition trigger wire on starter
If you don't have your keyless remote, & you just use the key to get in- make sure you click the manual unlock button 2 times on the driver side door, then start the car, after u put gas.
I had the same problem with my daughters G6. I had replaced the battery and stupidly took the positive post off first. That caused the car to go into “I’m stolen” mode, and also put it in limp home mode. I tried all sorts of things suggested on here for the key relearning. What finally worked was I Left the parking lights on to drain the battery completely, recharged it and it started up first Crack. No idiot lights and it runs perfectly.
