Hey guys and gals,
I haven't looked yet so forgive me my ignorance however, tomorrow I'm going to be doing a brake change and need to know where to jack up the car? I'm doing the fronts btw....Just under the oil pan? Whereabouts would you place the jack and jack stands? I've done this on other cars before thinking I know and ended up messin' up my sideskirt to my old 3000gt...
Any and all help is always appreciated!

Geewhiz....THANKS! Is that the frame itself? And yes I do have jack stands so it won't crush my face!
Yes, I wish I had pics of both stands but thats it. I place the stands behind where I jack it up.
Your owners manual also shows you where....

assume you are correct? = let the girlfriend figure out where the jack goes, when she is trying to get the car off of your face.
If you are using the manufacture supplied jack, I would for sure use the manual and put the jack where the book states. witch is on the sheet metal seam just behind the front tire for the front and in front of the rear tire for the rear.
If you have a hydraulic floor jack like geewhiz shows in the picture. You can put it anywhere that there is sufficient support to lift the car. IE. Frame rails or suspension component attachment points and so on. Keep in mind that the g6 is a uni-body and does not have a true frame per say. so stay away from flat sheet metal areas.
ALWAYS USE JACK STANDS! A standard floor jack does not have a positive locking mechanism. There for you are relying on the internal components of the jack to hold up the car. (could just be a .10$ "O" ring) Assume that the car will fall on you unless you have the jack stands under there too.

Not a stupid question at all. Due to the G6 being a uni-body, it's actually trickier than you first think once you get under there and look at it and realize there's really no "frame" per se. Using the sub-frame as a point to jack it up usually works well. If you're really concerned about it, they make uni-body adapters for floor jacks that will allow you to lift the car from the "slots" where the in-car jack goes (behind the front tire on the seem weld).
Where do you place the jack for working on the back tires?!?!
I would say under the rear cross member if your trying to lift the whole back end. If just one side I like the lower control arm. Allows the wheel to lift higher rather than the suspension falling as you lift the body of the car.Where do you place the jack for working on the back tires?!?!
+1. A friend was doing some brake or wheel (I for get which) in my driveway using only the tire changing jack. A few minutes into the task I hear a boom and feel my condo shake. Went outside and see a Mitsu Spyder hugging my driveway. No way to get my floor jack under the car (he didn't ask to use that... it was up to him to choose the right tools for the job!). To end this story, I made a lever out of a pair of 2x4s to lift up his car enough to get the wheel jack out from under it - then he asked to use the floor jack and jackstands. No serious damage to the car, small chip out of my driveway. Most importantly, no one died or was injured but it could easily have been different...assume you are correct? = let the girlfriend figure out where the jack goes, when she is trying to get the car off of your face.
