I've read every intake and exhaust thread on this site and still have a few questions about both.

Firstly, the intake. K&N makes a replacement drop-in filter for our cars. Why aren't those used as much as an open element cone? I would think that the engine heat alone would negate the extra flow....I've had this discussion many times about my truck (I have an open-element K&N filter on my Bronco) and it's a general consensus that it would have been better for me to go with the drop-in, due to less heat from the engine and more directed flow from the stock box.

Now to the exhaust...

I want to make my car sound like it's got some balls. I do NOT want it to sound like a little ricer 4 banger with a 17" coffee can on the back of it. I also don't want it to sound like my truck (which sounds good...but not on a car). I want it to have an agressive, deep tone but I don't know where to go to get that, or even if I can with a small V6 like mine. Can it be done? I want to take the resonator off (now that I have figured out what exactly it is) and put one of those mangaflow 14266 mufflers that everyone has, but I can't find a sound clip to save my life here. I'd like to hear it before I chuck the money down, so if anyone has a G6 GT without a resonator with this muffler, or any other muffler for that matter, please post it here. I'd like to get a general idea of how my car is going to sound with an aftermarket muffler.

Note that I do not want to spend tons of cash on this. I'm a college student on a very low wage and cannot afford a completely new exhaust system (no headers, high-flow cat, or aftermarket Y pipe for me).

Thanks everyone.

P.S. - How can I tell if my car has a 6-CD changer in it? I could have swore I saw the numbers 123456 lined up in the lower left hand corner of the display but I am thinking it's a single CD because I have no buttons to swap CDs, to load mulitple cds, etc.

Can't help you on the exhaust, but the CD changer should be there if you have 1-2-3-4-5-6 displayed (very small) in the lower left of the DIC. Also, the steering wheel controls on the right hand side should include a 1-6 button to shuffle between CDs in the CD mode, radio station presets in radio mode. While in CD mode, push buttons 1 through 6 on the stereo (double as radio presets) to shuffle between discs to load and unload. Be prepared, loading and unloading CDs is a slow PITA, but until a better solution to the MP3 situation comes out than FM modulators, it's still better than a sinle CD changer... Hope that helps

A single-CD unit is a CD player, not a changer. My bad. I'll take care of it...

There, I feel better. Welcome to the forum

I just looked again, I'm not crazy. There are the numbers down there and there are also a stack of CD's on the upper left hand corner of the display.

HOW THE HELL do I put another CD in?! I can't believe I'm stumped by a CD player and I build computers all day :\

Press a 1-6 radio button and press the Load button (in CD mode.) The current cd playing should be underlined in those tiny red numbers. Press 2, should say no CD, press load, and it should say wait loading cd 2 then ready or ok or load cd 2, something like that. It's counterintuitive, but you'll get it (if you have the changer.)

Don't think I have a load button....

Do they use the same display on all players?

Edit: Nope. I don't have a load button. My CD insert slot is above the display, and I think the 6-cd changers have the slot below the display.

Wow I'm kinda pissed now, I thought I had something I didn't.

Are u looking to get a Dual exhaust?
Like the gtp or keep the single outlet?
If u take out the resonator and get the magnoflow i think that would be fine and sound way better! I have heard clips of this before. But you wont really get that much of a performance gain if at all not sure if that is something u are looking for as well i will see if i can find some clips i dont want to post clips that i didnt make or get permission.

Yes, I want to get the GTP fascia and get duals from the muffler.

I hear everyone saying it sounds great, but people have different preferences and I'd like to hear it myself, I have been looking all day and can't find one with our engine size though :(

I've heard of it, haven't heard it yet but I know it's really expensive. I'm looking at a muffler (around 120ish is what I have seen), $20 for cutting out the resonator and straight-piping it, and then however much he'll want to charge me for installation of the muffler.

I saw at the Pontiac parts house Saturday that GM now makes a catback performance exhaust you can order (it's not cheap). GM says its aggressive, but within Federal noise limits. It was for the 3.5, and I just wonder it'd work with the 3.9, or maybe they'll make one for the 3.9 next?
