Hey guys, sorry about creating another thread about the choice of oil. But I could never really find a an answer for my question.

Most people on here are running oil that gives more of a performance edge, like full synthetics and whatnot. However, I'm trying to find the BRAND/WEIGHT of oil that gives me the best increase in fuel economy.

I switched to Mobil 1, and I actually saw a decrease according to the thing on the DIC. I was at 26.4 prior to the change, and am now at 25.1, and I don't think my driving style has changed. I have the 3.5L by the way, it's a G6 base.

So, any opinions on what oil will be the best for increasing economy?

Thanks a bunch.

I'm not a Mobil fan but I would think that anything that lubricates the the motor "better" would reduce friction and thus improve economy. Mine increased negligibly of maybe ~1 MPG.

You might want to consider doing the MPG manually by resetting miles when you fill up and next fill up see how many gallons you need to fill it up. The DIC has a habit of not being accurate.

To be off by 1.3 MPG is not to bad, there are quite a few variables that might have made such a minor difference. Maybe your 25.1MPG had a head wind or it was a bit warmer that day. I would do multiple test. Just my thoughts,

I switched from Amsoil 5W30 to Amsoil 0W30 last month, and noticed a small bump up in mileage on freeway slogs. Mind you, the freeways here are limited to 62mph, or 100km/h and I generally just set the cruise at 65mph for best mileage, lowest noise, and ease of having everyone go around me with my cruise control on - makes for the most relaxing drive.

I can't really say I've noticed an increase with driving around town, but don't forget when calculating in mileage that adding even one 200lb passenger can have an effect on mileage when you calculate. There are tons of factors involved that you have to take into consideration. With 5 ppl in my G6 last week (tight squeeze it was), and some things in the trunk I still managed 23mpg with 80 miles highway and about 40 city. I consider anything over 20mpg with a V6 carrying 1000lbs of lard arses around a good show!
