i have an '06 g6 gt with the monsoon 6 CD changer in it and i would like to add an aux/i-pod port and i dont want a FM transmitter for quality reason. so i was wondering if there is a direct hook up for the monsoon. i have not yet removed the head unit to check but i figured id ask before taking things apart. :)

Your best bet is to replace the existing head unit with one that has an AUX port. IMO, the extra effort/money for a clean install on a head unit with the AUX port and not the add on is well worth the time/money; but that's just me.

I like to keep my cars as stock as I can with only minor mods for performance (if any), style and audio. I don't like the look of aftermarket radios and will spend the extra money to keep that stock look. I did purchase and install an 08 (thanks Pooners!) Monsoon head unit w/ an AUX port. Plus, I upgraded the speakers to Kenwood and added an external amp to add power the speakers. It sounds really nice.
The newer Monsoon head unit, IMO, is the way to go esp. if you think you might sell the car later. Although we want to believe differently after market radios do not add value to your car. As a matter of fact I would NEVER buy a car that doesn't have the stock radio.
There are aftermarket head units that carry over most of your cars information but how much, I don't know.
My money would be on a newer Monsoon head unit, but I know others here do not share my view, maybe they will post up?

You can get what I got. works perfect and controls your Ipod if you have one. Got mine from a different site and was less than $100

+1 except I have the version that has the Apple dock connector. Control of my iPhone 3G from the head unit, plays and charges the phone through the dock connector, and you still have a second AUX input. The price is a bit higher for that version, but like maykevin5 I got mine cheaper by shopping around.

I also have a 2006 monsoon and am looking at options for aux. if I buy a 08 monsoon player and install it myself will it still show all the info (trip a, trip b, mpg, est. miles) or do I have to have a dealer do something?
