This is probably a simple question for someone who knows anything about vehicle tires- which is not me A friend of mine gave me a set of half-used Michelin Energy LX4 tires. The tire size is 225 60R 17. The tires now on my car are 225 50R 17. Will those tires fit on my car? My mom's car needs new tires too and her car now has 225 45R 17 tires. Will they fit on her car? As far as I know, the middle number indicates how tall the tires are, so it would make sense to me that they probably would fit. Please let me know. Thanks

Also the speedo wouldnt read right. If you think you are going 60 but you are actually going 64...

I actually just bought new tires right before my friend gave me the Michelins. I got General Altimax HP grand-touring, all-season tires. I was just wondering if these tires are going to be any good if anyone has tried them out before. I know that General Tire is owned by Continental and I just read the stickey thread about how terrible the traction on Continentals are. I actually did order a set of continentals but tire rack was out of stock on the ones I wanted and the suggested the Generals. Looks like I dodged a bullet on that one! Lesson learned: always double check with the owner's club before doing anything to the G6! Anywho, the Generals look legit from their web page (though that doesn't say much about performance) and their ratings so any info would be appreciated. They also have a 55,000 miles tread warranty too, apparenlty.

That's what my mom was worrying about. The wheel well on her Volvo C70 is pretty shallow too

Without going out and looking I think those General tires are what I got for my wife's Subaru Forester. I know that is all wheel drive but they seem like good tires and came pretty highly rated on tirerack.com

they would probably fit on your car with no rub, but your mom's car might rub. the middle number is the ratio of the sidewall to the overall tire width(225) when inflated. lower number lower profile

-225/60/17 WILL rub when you crank the wheel all the way over and will eventually wear out your inner fenders as well as your tires. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE THAT'S WHATS ON MY CAR RIGHT NOW. Its a horrible noise when you do it but I'm cheap, and so were the tires; they're only summers anyways. However I won't do that again as my speedo reads fast and also adds more miles on the odometer then actual. My winter tires are 225/55/17 which don't rub but will still read a little fast on the speedo. I usually don't go as fast in snow anyways.

-Correct! The 225 is the width, 50 is the recommended height, and 17 is the wheel size.
