I forgot to ask or notice if there is a cabin air filter in the G6...is there one? I have one in my Focus and it keeps it clean for long periods of time whereas before I installed it, it sucked. I'm sure it'll do the same with the G6. If it uses one, where is it accessible?

Crap...I've never known a GM car to have a cabin filter...can you think of one? At least GM is getting around to putting a manual recirc button on their climate controls so I can block the outside air when it's stinky or dusty...

I am sure it is in a few now (like some Saturn products and maybe Buick/Caddy), just not a lot of clamoring for it by customers across the board yet, I guess.

Manual recirc has been around for some time - in new vehicles since late 90's.

It wasn't in my 00 Sonoma or my 02 Sunfire (I was given the car, so don't start :p ). The only way to get recirc on those cars was to have the air on "max". At least there's a button now (that's all I was saying...at least there is a button on the lower end cars whereas before it seemed they were only on high-end cars).

Those things are huge - the G6 one isn't even the same as Malibu
Yeah, I'm away that they are huge...just thinking if there wasn't an access point on one and there was on another, it could be retrofitted...theoretically.
Speaking of them being big...I remember seeing a picture of some car with an HVAC unit removed and they were trying to smuggle a little girl in the country...I'll see if I can find the pic.

I am thinking about buying a G6 coupe, but no cabin air filter? This is pathetic. My 04' $16,000 Honda civic has one. It keeps the vents and the inside of the car virtually dust free. I don't know about this car anymore, it just seems to be lagging behind the competition still....

haha.. no cabin filter.. no purchase.. that's a funny reason.. but.. it's your money.. spend it as you please.
no, no, its not just the cabin air filter. Its ALL of the little things. The things that make a good car a great car. The G6 is lacking with not having a cabin air filter, no auxilary audio input, has a crappy 4 spd auto, crappy looking key, dull gauge cluster lighting, not implementing the variable displacement feature the 3.9 was designed with. Its the little things that are holding this car back. Don't get me wrong, I still like it because I think its has very tasteful styling and good performance characteristics, but its not wowing me like it should. I guess I'm still up in the air on it...

cabin air filter? Lol. On my last car I changed the cabin air filter at 70,000 miles and noticed no difference whatsoever. Coming from a Ford, I'm happy with my transmission. In tapshift mode it really takes off the line and pushes you back. I have no problem reading the gauges at night...you sure you had the dimmer adjusted correctly?

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!! If I could go back to March 2005 I would have never purchased my G6. A lot of people love theirs, mine, not so much. If you're already having doubts, then by all means look at something else. They are great looking cars, but in my opinion there are too many little problems. I realize that there will be problems with most new model cars, but I've just had way too many (that have been fixed and since come back, plus some that have never been fixed). I know I should be happy that I have not had any major problems yet, but when I buy a car I don't expect to have it in the shop for anything other than oil changes and tire rotations. Just my thoughts!

Do you ever find your dash covered in dust? It would probably take about a year for enough dust to build up in my car to be visible. And that includes driving on gravel rodes rather frequently. The filter makes a bid difference.

Perhaps your perception is different because you have only driven crappy cars. I've driven only Honda's, and I have to say they set a high bar for competitors to reach. Everything has been pretty much flawless. Of course any car is going to be good compared to a Ford. I don't want to make this a big foreign domestic debate debacle, but I just wish GM would step it up a notch as to not be lacking in any areas. The 4 speed may perform well, but it hurts your gas milage. The guages.....have you ever been in a car with gorgeous electroluminescent gauges? They are worlds better. There is nothing wrong with the G6, but it doesn't quite compare well to competitors.

I agree with you. You shouldn't have to bring a car in for anything other than scheduled maintenance. I think alot of GM owners are so used to little things going wrong that they take it for granted. Seriously, my Civic is flawless, and all indications show that it will remain that way for some time. I still really love the design of the G6, perhaps I'll wait for the 07's which will hopefully have some of the bugs worked out.

So if the dust builds up you just clean it lol. Of course my dash had a lot of dust on it, it was custom painted and the car was 6 years old. You say you've only driven Hondas, my first car was a pontiac, then a ford, now I have another pontiac. And my parents both drive Cavaliers, and we've had no problems at all with and are happy with GM. Little things that have been mentioned in this thread should be expected, I mean, it's not like the car is a BMW or Mercedes. You can't even compare it to a Honda because even the top of the line Accord goes for close to $30,000 no? My top of the line G6 was $24K and I think it's worth it for what I got.
