Do you ever find your dash covered in dust? It would probably take about a year for enough dust to build up in my car to be visible. And that includes driving on gravel rodes rather frequently. The filter makes a bid difference.
Perhaps your perception is different because you have only driven crappy cars. I've driven only Honda's, and I have to say they set a high bar for competitors to reach. Everything has been pretty much flawless. Of course any car is going to be good compared to a Ford. I don't want to make this a big foreign domestic debate debacle, but I just wish GM would step it up a notch as to not be lacking in any areas. The 4 speed may perform well, but it hurts your gas milage. The guages.....have you ever been in a car with gorgeous electroluminescent gauges? They are worlds better. There is nothing wrong with the G6, but it doesn't quite compare well to competitors.
