Changing Monsoon speakers only

Hello all! This is my 1st post here, as I just picked up an '07 G6 GTP coupe a few days ago. It has the monsoon system in it, which I have decided is aweful. :)
I'd like to improve it, if I can, but I really would like to avoid having to replace the stock headunit if possible, so my question is: How much of an improvement would I see if I were to just replace the door and rear deck speakers, and leave them hooked to the factory wiring, assumingly back to the monsoon amp?

Thanks in advance!

front isn't bad, you have to get the right speakers though. Back is a real pain. There is a how to on this issue.
Workkng on this now, I just got new Alpines for front and back and a new Amp i had blown back rear. I'm hoping I can have some friends help me, I'm wondering if there is a way to easily add Ipod connection to the Stock Monsson system?
The actual install process is not what worries me. What I am more looking for is opinions of how much gain I would get by only replacing the stock speakers with some higher quality ones, but leaving the stock headunit and amp in place to run them. Maybe, also, some opinions on which speakers work best in this car given the scenario I am speaking of.

Thanks for everyone's responses so far, though..... :)
what you should be worried about is the higher wattage speakers overloading the factory amp.. Some people on here said their amp was going out just from having the factory speakers turned up to high/bass.
