went into the stealership for my oil change and they noticed my lower passenger side control arm was loose and told me i should feel it bump or hear it....i hear nothing. just wondering what i should be looking/ listening for or if it is just the tiniest bit loose and they tell me so they can steal 450 bucks for replacing a decent condition arm and ball joint. any help is appreciated

When you turn at slow speeds do you hear a little clunk? Its easy to mix it up with the steering clunk. Also notice anything with the alignment? control arms going bad = alignment issues.

I replaced both control arms around 3,000 miles ago. Cost 160 for both and 150 for the install. It would have been cheaper but i replaced the swaybar endlinks at the same time.
If its not under warranty i would find a local shop to install it very easy.
I second that, this is one of those repairs that the dealership will jack up the cost on. If no warranty - go local. Daniel nailed it right on the head
how can i determine the difference between the usual steering clunk and the control arm? and i got a local guy that i would definitely take it to...i'd get the part online too since ive found it almost half the price that the dealership said
The guy i go to said when he was putting my tire on he felt some play in the ball joint.
I would say to it to your local guy and ask to check the ball join out. And did you look at rockauto.com
Best prices i could find and got both Aluminum control (mevotech) for half of say autozone and nappa. some other brands are heavier and cast i believe.
and you think aluminum would be the better choice over cast?
Where did you find both control arms for 160? Autozone sells one for 135.
i ended up gettin it for 85 i think shipped
Mine started making a clunk on the right front passenger side. It only happens while turning never straight over bumps or anything. Is it necessary to replace both left and right at the same time? I'm so broke. I really wanted a tune and tint nevermind having to replace suspension parts :(
Replaced Lower Control Arms Twice

went into the stealership for my oil change and they noticed my lower passenger side control arm was loose and told me i should feel it bump or hear it....i hear nothing. just wondering what i should be looking/ listening for or if it is just the tiniest bit loose and they tell me so they can steal 450 bucks for replacing a decent condition arm and ball joint. any help is appreciated
I found that I had to replace the arms twice within the past 2 years. I have over 100000 miles on the vehicle and the second time was 2 months ago, when I had a tire repaired they lifted the car and found that the bushing on one side was already worn out and the other was loose. It was not due to driving recklessly but probably due to worn struts. Both front struts have not been replaced. It cost me over 500 for the first replacement and another 500 for the last one. I found that rockauto is the best place to purchased parts. It is cheaper that purchasing thru a garage and/or dealer. But some garages do not like that you have your own parts. I have a warranty on the arms from the garage but will have them also put in new struts when they come in from rock auto. Not happy that I have to replace them again.
