Hey Guys,

Took my 2007 GT Convertible into a GM dealer to have a recall done and the service guy said I should have my convert top "cables" adjusted periodically.

He claimed if you don't keep them adjusted they can snap and then it's about a $1,500 repair instead of about $165.00 for the adjustment (thought that was kind of a high price for just an "adjustment")

This is my first hard top convertible so I don't know much about them.

Anyone ever have their cables adjusted on their hard top convert??

Get a 2nd opinion. I have a convertible and never heard of cables. My problem is parts. No longer available. Anybody know of a lawyer willing to take the case?

You could also try GM to see if there is a standard maintenance task for this. I think I know the cables they mean, the ones that move the wings on the rear seat deck. I have not seen anything that supports the need for adjustment. They may benefit from some lubrication. I would also want a second opinion.

Convertible top parts are becoming as rare as rocking horse droppings.

Probably not enough money in it for a lawyer to take a case like that, they didn't sell that many convertibles.

Looking at making a hinge that will attach to the middle section. It is only the passenger side that is broken. Any ideas? Maybe a correct size tube cut as needed. Don't care if any screws or bolts are seen. We should have some shade tree mechanics out there. I am one, that's why I am willing to explore this idea.

After checking around, I found the part # wrong. There should be a 2 in front of the #. Correct # is 25887153. Also, I found a Co. that is sure they can make a hinge part that will attach to the middle section. It may need a cover for the attaching screws or bolts that may be needed. Will update when completed. Thanks to all for reading this. P.S. The little wings are still available for both sides. Also thank you GM (government motors) for not supporting the parts for 10 years. You just lost a another new car customer.

Hinges

I'm also looking desperately for a pair of hinges for my 2006 G6 hard top convertible.

The part number is 15815587.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The hinge is listed on the web site.
Had my hopes up.
Called to confirm availability.
As with several other sites, I was told the site is basically just a parts catalogue, and the item is listed as DISCONTINUED, UNAVAILABLE.
I'm considering actually having the hinge made for me by a shop.
Wondering if anyone else needs this particular part???

Hinge Part

Geof, yes I've been looking for this part for a long time and although I glued it back together twice and it works great, I'm looking to find replacements. The clips too, European design, ordered those as well.

are you talking about part 25887153 - the center panel behind the back seats when the top is in the trunk? interested in the "I glued it back together" statement. with what type of glue?

I'm referring to the 2 center hinges which for me they snapped twice in the last year (don't leave anything in the trunk and forget about it) but with some Gorilla Glue Blue Top with Blue Label, sandpaper, and 2 clamps and voila, fixed it twice, and its working like a charm.

As for yours the center panel, maybe a long metal thin bar, screw it on and
start again, haven't had that problem yet. Also I've sourced some of the air suspension clips from the UK to replace Cclips I'm currently using the for the wings. Love the car, wish yes I could get parts even finding a wreaker, but no luck as of yet.

I called the place, and they said - like everyone else - the part is discontinued and unavailable. I'm getting to hate those words!
They also looked for it nationwide and said no dealer in the United States has it. :(
The part # is 15815587 - hinge.
I'm investigating having it made. If there's any interest in it out there to help me split whatever it will cost, please let me know.
