Hey guys:

I have something for you CSI types out there. I investigate crashes (facts-1 dot com), and I'm looking at one which involves a G6. The driver claims he came to a stop at a stop sign on a level road at 1 am. He had an automatic transmission.

As he stopped he dropped his phone on the floor, and while he was looking for it his foot slipped off the brake. Unbeknownst to him, his car started rolling forward into the intersection and he got t-boned.

Any ideas on how plausible his story is? I'm looking mainly for firsthand input from G6 drivers regarding what happens when you're at a full stop on a level road and you take your foot off the brake. Does the car sit there or does it start rolling slowly? What does it do? The guy had at least 10 feet to go before he could get t-boned.

well...when i take my foot off the brake on level ground my 6 starts moving forward. but i dont see how you dont feel your foot slip off the brake, or you dont feel your car moving forward for ten feet...but I guess thats why your the investigator. i'll try it today on my way home and see how long it takes to get ten feet.

^^agreed on a level road the car will roll when I take my foot off the brake but it doesnt go very fast, if it was me I would be able to feel my car move.

Awareness neglect. Wouldn't you be able to tell if he was driving 5 mph through an intersection compared to 40+ mph if you are trying to prove that going through the intersection was an accident or not?

I know his speed. But his speed isn't relevant to whether it's an accident or not.

Can the G6 even idle over like 5 mph? I don't think it can on flat ground.

It seems as though speed is completely relevant. 5 mph would mean he might have slipped off the brake. Anything over 5 would be a totally different situation. Abyssul, I think I see what you are saying.

Let me be clear. Whether he was doing 5 or 40 is not the issue. This was a staged crash and I know he was barely moving at impact.

What I was looking for was input from people who actually owned a G6 for an idea of how a G6 behaves from a level stop when letting off the brake. I thought it would save me a trip to find one to test drive depending on the response.

I don't see how you could get a fair comparison anywhere but where it took place. What's "level" to anyone probably has at least some mininal incline/decline that would skew the comparison.

yes for the most part G6's will move forward on their own without the brake one.........at least in mine i can be on a pretty good up hill and let off the brake and the car will still move forward, and my G6 will idel on level ground at 15-20mph if it was like JUST started and idleing at about 1k RPMs or above........found that out one time cuz i needed to move my car and it was like 30 degrees out and i just stareted it let it run for about a min to let the oil start movin around and put it in gear and didnt have to touch the gas at all

otherwise on "level" ground my 6er will idle right along at about 5mph and it DOES NOT take long for it to move only 10 feet

Entirely plausible. Most every automatic transmission-equipped car will roll if it is in gear and you take your foot off the brake on level ground. I use this fact a lot when backing out of or moving slowly forward into parking spaces. I've also used it to creep forward when traffic is stopped but the cars ahead creep forward slightly.

ive never been in an automatic car that DOESNT move forward when you release the brake.

do it all the time when you dont wana waste gas moving up in line for a stop sign, in a drive through.

tahoe, g6, malibu, golf, caravans...you name it...they all do.
