I noticed when I am just sitting at a red light or just sitting with the foot on the brake that the car seems to putter. My car is in the shop for the popping noise right now and i have a rental car and i noticed that this car doesnt do the puttering so it must just be some g6's .. idk if it has somethin to do with the starter / battery ... no clue!! maybe its just me because im cursed with hearing noises and finding EVERYTHING wrong with G6's!

Hey:

Yeah I notice my car does that too. I have the 3900 V6 in my GTP. I saw another topic on this that talked a bit about it. I recall the user saying something about about spark plugs/wires. Hopefully that is all it is. I just ignore it...it hasn't caused much of a problem in my 4 months of ownership. My previous G6 (4 cyl sedan) never had this problem. I have yet to take my car in for service but it's due at the end of this month.

I assume the popping noise you're referring to is the steering. All G6's have this problem. Apparently there isn't a safety issue with it...I've had my steering shaft lubricated by the dealer and that solves the problem for ~6 months (with very little $). Not sure if you will actually need to have the shaft replaced.

Good luck!

I haven't noticed puttering

But starting Ive had issues with the starter.
Ground wire can get loose and make the car shut off while driving im sure its rare but can happen if your motor mounts get loose. and after changing my spark plugs and wires the car runs like new. You'll here different things from people saying don't change them till 100,000 miles but i would rather change them when there wearing out LOL it cost me around 75 to get new wires and plugs from auto zone (68,000 miles)

I also have the steering clunk sound if you here it both ways at low speeds its the intermediate steering shaft. If its mainly when you turn one way and feels like loose it may be a bent tie rod wish also happened to me.
