I know that the shift cables for the F40 in the G6 are pretty much unobtanium. Though few manual transmission cars were built in '06 and '07 and fewer remain in captivity, owners of these cars need a solution for shifter and cable parts.

I stumbled onto a web site for a vendor that specializes in performace parts for the Pontiac Fiero. Apparently, the F40 transmission is a popular mod for the Fiero. This vendor sells a kit (that includes cables) that allows use of the F40 in a Fiero with the stock Fiero shifter. It's probably a long shot that the cables for this kit could be used on a G6, but it might be worth a conversation with the vendor to see what they can do. If any F40 G6 owner here follows up on this and finds out anything from this vendor, please post it here. (FYI: I don't own a manual car. but wish I could have bought one back in the day.)

Just to push this a little farther along, I e-mailed the vendor with the question of whether the cables they supply with their kits would work in a G6, or if they have other suggestions. I'll post relavant information from their reply (if any) here.

Got a thoughtful reply from the Fiero vendor regarding his shift cable kit and he said the cables won't work on the G6. Sorry, about the dead end, but I had to ask.

The vendor did refer me to a company that specializes in making custom cables. They are California Push-Pull Inc. (California Push-Pull Inc. Cable Specialists Based in Chico, Ca.). They have an extensive catalog and I have no doubt they'd be able to duplicate the G6 cables if anyone had a sample. If there is sufficient interest, it might be worth a go to contact them. Good Luck.
