I replaced my girlfriends front caliper and rotor on the drivers side after the caliper locked up. I also replaced the front pads and then bled all 4 calipers with fresh fluid.

About 2 weeks after, she said her brakes were making a hell of a noise after she hit a bump and heard a loud pop. Turns out the bottom bolt mounting the caliper to the spindle fell out. Guess I forgot to torque it and definitely didn’t put locktite on it. Went and got both bolts from GM.

Now that I am going to properly torque them, when I tighten the bottom bolt it will pull the rear of the rotor out so that the rotor doesn’t sit flush with the hub. I though it might have bent the caliper bracket so I went and bought another one. Same result. I compressed the piston in the caliper and the same result. I can tighten the top bolt and it doesn’t budge the caliper mount like tightening the bottom bolt does.

So I guess my question is, could that bolt coming loose have bent the spindle?

The caliper bracket attaches to the knuckle. (To me, spindle = hub/bearing.) And, yes, that would be my guess, that the knuckle got bent somehow when the bolt came out.

I'd say your best bet would be a junk yard part. If you go there, first remove the bad knuckle. Compare it to the good one on the other side to see if you can find where it's bent. Take it to the junk yard with you so you can compare it to the replacement.
