Future Supercharger/Turbo

8181 Views 26 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  geewhiz
I've been looking and it looks like the only turbo option is a universal kit, or maybe the rsm supercharger. Are there any other options or any that are supposed to be coming out sometime soon? For tuning I have HP Tuners which I've had experience using with another car, I just need to find a good kit. Thanks for any info.

Guess I should clarify, I have a 2006 G6 GTP.
Look through what's already been posted about "turbos" in this section. Then try asking that again with a straight face.

[should've tried the link before I put it in]

Not trying to be a smart ass but it's been asked way too many times.
Well that's the thing is that I have been reading and finding absolutely nothing..note that I also asked about any future plans that anyone might know about. I know how to use search.
Future plans are probably a negative since Pontiac is now gone.
Let me save you the time, hassle, flame wars (that I'll admittedly be participating in), excitement, and let down of any possible future turbo or supercharger: There is none, and never will be a viable option for any sort of forced induction on our cars, unless you have enough money to buy another car - then, and only then - will you be able to afford a forced induction kit for this vehicle. And, assuming you have that type of money, you wouldn't have been here in this first place.

So no, there is no future for you with a G6 and a turbo or supercharger.

There's only one company who has a kit that might work on our vehicle, and its very specific to a year/model of the G6, and two, our transmissions just cannot handle the added power, and finally there is no interest in the market for our cars, and so no-one really supports them except for an elite few which can be found on these forums who are G6 fans as well.

Well, I'm not sure why I would get "flamed" for asking about a performance question. I'm not saying this as some pie in the sky outlook wishlist. I'm aware it takes money, I'm aware there's little to no support for the G6, and I've also had cars with boost before. As far as having enough money to buy another car, I do have more than just this car, and can sell another car to help fund this.

So now on to something instead of defending myself...I have a performance shop in mind which does a lot of extensive customization. I have already sent them an e-mail about the possibility of a custom turbo setup. That being said, so I get an idea of what a reasonable expectation would be, does anyone have an opinion on how much something like that would cost..obviously a lot, but just how much is a lot. I know it's hard to put a price on it since it is custom, but just trying to get a better idea.

I'm willing to look into this and put in the time and effort if that ends up being at least kind of reasonable. If it isn't then oh well, but that's what I'm trying to find out..

Well, you'd be flamed because you would be the 373rd person on here to ask about it, with a previous success rate of 0-372 :p

But certainly don't let that stop you :bravo:

Well I'm not worried about being the first person to do something..I used to go on j-body forums and I saw a guy catch all kinds of grief for wanting to do a twin charged setup on a cavalier Z24, well he did it..and it worked and then everyone loved his idea lol...also for the ecotec cav guys that got the gm performance parts s/c (like me) the reflash locked the pcm allowing hptuners to not work..so I decided to take a stock pcm and start from scratch..and it worked...so I'm not worried about the fact no one has done it yet. Somoene has to be the first. But that doesn't mean I will, that's why I came on here to do my research, the due diligence to see if it's something I want to try and take on..and maybe it's not...but you have to find out somehow..and yes I've been searching the forums. So that being said, I'd like to keep this civil and if the only answer is that there's so little support and so many problems that it would be a massive custom undertaking to do so..then ok, I'll listen to what's said by people who know these cars. Either way, I'm just trying to find out information..not make claims that I want to do this so therefore it'll be something easy.

I guess a secondary question would be, if boosting the car is not a good option, are there any other things that may be coming out besides cai, exhaust, tune..or is that pretty much all there will be since as one person said, Pontiac isn't being made anymore.

That's the thing, all options lead to unreasonable.

Of course there are things you can do, and whether or not they are "reasonable", well... thats your decision. Likewise, with all cars, you can always replace the cams, get custom headers since you seem to be the type who wants to do something extra-ordinary, get the MPD hood for "free flow" induction into Lampoon's CRAB (ram air box) which can be connected with an aftermarket cold air intake, completely redo your exhaust system, or get the bolt on, legendary GT-R exhaust for like $700 which helps make the car grumble more.

Are you looking for performance? Appearance? Both? You can redo your brake system with brembo brakes, change out your rotors, redo your interior, get a body kit, revamp your audio system... theres tons of things and why would you want or need to supercharge a FWD vehicle that already has 200+ horsepower, assuming you got at least the V6 option? Do you like spinning your wheels off-the-line, or at a light? Just get cheap tires, it'll save you the time and the hassle.

Don't forget Nos too, it's relatively cheap, unless you have an itchy trigger finger which requires you to refill the Nos every other weekend.
Thanks for the replies, I think I've gathered some good information, now I just have to weigh my options. To answer one of the above questions, I have the 06 GTP, and I do like the power, I guess I just can't get enough haha.
I have been researching this, the engine itself should be able to handle 5-8lbs of boost on stock internals

The trans should be fine with an heavy duty cooler.

Anymore than that and you get into the $$$$$$ pit
You should just give up and hose clamp one of these to the intake.

I heard those are revolutionary
Just make sure to keep the setting on "cool" - hot air=no good for the intake.
Hey! One of those will fit on my bike! I'll have to get it painted black though.
How many of those do I need to hook up to equal a turbo? lol
I hope that is VERY tongue in cheek.
