G6 steering nightmare

Just wanted to post this in case there were others out there like me whos problem has just started.

I have just found your postings and I realize thatsome of your issues are resolved, but I would appreciate any help in this matter. I'am today filing complaints at any sight we can find. Daughter owns 2005 Pontiac G6 16000 miles. First incident with car was when turning right while on hill, loud noise and popping then steering locked and she ran over curb. Took this car to the dealer they gave her rental, called her to pick up car said there was nothing wrong she must have hydroplaned( sp). Second time this happened she was in down town traffic when steering locked the car proceeded into on coming traffic. Luckily steering returned and she was spared a awful accident. Took back to dealership. Dealership called yesterday and told her to come in to pick up car. When she got there they told her they could find nothing wrong, That they had computer on board for her to take it and push a red button when the steering problem returned. (Hmmmm wonder if she was suppose to find and hit this button while trying to avoid accident or after the ambulance got there.). She told them she did not feel comfortable doing this she was scared to drive the car. They said well some one has to do it. She ask the head man in dept if they were telling her the car was safe to drive they said they could not tell her that. She said would you put your daughter in this car. He said NO and walked away. She refused to take the car. Concerned mother

If any one is having this problem please go to Carissa's earlier posts and submit complaints to appropriate places that she has posted, Ive read many posts on this but few official complaints. And believe me Ive went in any sight I can find to complain, my daughters lives are worth more to me than a few stiff fingers from filling out complaint forms.

Stay with the thread

I think all should stay with the steering sub-thread.
go to a different dealer before going on a tirade against GM.
Sorry for the inconvenience of my thread. Did not realize I wasnt in right thread. New to this forum. If moderator can remove my posting as well as all others I would appreciate it. Or if someone can tell me how to remove it I will gladly do so.
Car has been to three diffrent dealers. Did not know concern would be taken as tirade. My apologies. If moderator can remove all of my previous postings would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
I have to agree with G6steering on this one. Why not go on a tirade???? or should we all wait until someone dies and GM Reacts? Don't get me wrong I've not had this problem and seriously hope none of us do.

It has to be totally frustrating.

I Agree! So help me gawd if it happened while my wife was driving hers and I got that sort of reception at the Service dept...I'd have somebody's job!
This is not an inconvenience of having to push a red button! This is a serious safety issue!

Mod's please add this thread to the Steering sticky!
Try a different dealership. All service departments ARE NOT created equal!

No they are not...however, they all represent GM products. So, At a minimum, I would contact the regional rep. If no relief there...BBB. Sorry but something as critical as steerinf should not be ignored.
OMG... You are so patient. If this was my daughter or wife experiencing the problem the dealership would have the car at their lot until the problem was found, diagnosed, and fixed. Being told to hit a button when it happens? Is your daughter an automotive technician? Is she expected to try to drive out of a dangerous situation one handed with no steering while she's looking at the seat beside her for a red button?

I'd be calling the dealership's bosses, the regional contact, and GM headquarters... And if that didn't work I'd have a lawyer call them. I'll make every threat in the book and talking to Rick Wagoner himself before I go putting one of my family member's life on line.

Sorry for my little rant, it's not even happening to me... But hearing something like this puts me somewhere between pissed and scared witless.
D'oh... i see this is an older thread. Was the problem found? Has there been a resolution yet? How'd it turn out?
I don't think there has been a definite resolution, but it appears to only affect the '05 model and only a few of them, I have asked in the past to no avail for people who have had the problem to post their last 8 digits of their VIN numbers to see if there is any coorelation between build dates. I have an '05 but have had no indication of any problem with the steering.
