A friend of mine has a 06 Mustang with some mods (around 240hp). I got a 05 G6 GT. Can I take him out?

BTW, today I kinda dragged (0-100km/h) with a Charger R/T, seemed that I was just only behind for half a car length. If I got some better tires, I could get neck n neck with an R/T.

didn't know G6 was that powerful.

Although the Charger is heavy, it has 350+ hp which could whip your butt. A G6 GXP has a fighting chance though.

Mustang fight would be iffy. Depends on the specifics on each car.

With that HP number the Mustang is obviously a V6 and IMO I think it would be a drivers race as the weight difference is small (3500# for the Mustang vs 3300# for the G6) and the HP between the two is fairly similar. I owned an 07 V6 Mustang and it really wasn't a powerhouse and I know my GXP could kick it's butt. A Mustang GT on the otherhand will win by a car length or more.

05-06 V6 vs Mustang V6? Unlikely
07+ v6 vs Mustang V6? Fair fight

05-06 is rated for 200 hp 220 torque
07+ is 225ish HP

From Wikipedia

When the G6 was introduced in 2005, it had two trim levels, base "V6" and sportier "GT". Both trims, however, used a 3.5 L pushrod V6 producing 200 horsepower (150 kW) and 220 lbf·ft (300 N·m) of torque
The 2007 G6 saw more engine changes, The GT now featured VVT on its 3.5 L V6, raising power from 200 hp to 224 hp.

Take it from a former Mustang owner (90LX coupe 5.0L)...their biggest problem has always been getting the HP to the ground...you should be able to take out a V6 equipped Stang. A V8...not likely, unless the driver is asleep ;)

ok, now im gonna copy n paste things from wiki.

LZ4The LZ4 3500 is an OHV engine based on the 3.9 L LZ9 V6. It was introduced for the 2006 model year in the Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo. It includes continuously variable cam timing (fixed overlap). It has a cast iron block and aluminum heads. Output is 211 hp (156.5 kW) at 5800 rpm and 214 ft·lbf (298 N·m) at 4000 rpm. Bore is 99 mm (3.9 in), stroke is 76 mm (3.0 in) for a displacement of 3510 cc. Horsepower rating changed for the 2007 model year to Horsepower: 224 at 5800 rpm and Torque: 220 at 4000 rpm. The Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6, and Saturn Aura became equipped with this engine for 2007 (previously the Malibu and G6 had the non-VVT 201 hp (150 kW) 3.5 L LX9). In 2008 SAE ratings dropped the horsepower ratings to 219, keeping torque as is. On Pontiac G6 convertible models, horsepower was rated at 217.

Well, I know that my Rustang* will certainly eat up any of your G6's. Chargers are just snacks. :D :p

Never compare a front wheel drive sedan with rear wheel drivers. They're in a different league. At any track or on the street the G6 will get spanked. My GT can hold it's own, don't get me wrong, but it's in a different size, and weight class when viewed to rear wheel drive Mustang, Charger, Camaro and even Genesis Coupe!

It would be appropriate to compare (and attempt to drag) a Ford Fusion V6, as it is not only front wheel drive, but has a smaller V6 with similar HP until recently when it was bumped from 200 to 240hp. Same with the previous Honda Accord.

The newer rear wheel drivers for 2011 will leave even the quickest G6 GTP V6 in the dust. RWD+300+hp+similar if not lighter weight and better balance and driving dynamics over a FWD G6= G6 will lose, every time no matter how skilled the driver thinks he/she is.

I owned a '91 LX 5.0 Hatchback and without a doubt, it's paltry 225hp could move. As mentioned above, the hard part was getting it planted to go fast in a straight line. At 110K miles my rear axle was toast, and I upgraded it to a 4.10posi and with that alone even my 'modern' G6 with 200hp or so wouldn't even come close to standing a fighting chance. The only downside is my old Stang was a terrible winter driver, which is why I ultimately ended up trading it in and went back to front wheel drive. Now that I bought a four wheeler, it ticks me off that I sold it years ago as it was a fine machine of its time.

dragged a 86 5.0L mustang...walked it...ran 15.6 vs. 15.8...had intake a dyno tune...he had drag radials intake exhaust

also walked a Civic Si with intake and exhaust

dragged an 06 Mustang V6 beat me by .1...and he had a shit start...

HOWEVER, if you have a G6 and go autocross...YOU do have a fighting chance to do well...the IRS and the MacPherson front handles better than the Shelby suspension and anything Dodge throws at you...went up against a Police Package Charger (driven by a Lt. who went thru the countys Driving training) and killed it by about 5 secs on every lap

Genesis Coupe is a beast. That is all. I would take that over any other car listed in this thread.

While the G6 is a nice car, it is no racing machine.

In order for the Genesis coupe to even remotely keep up in performance with the base model V6 2011 Mustang, it has to be fully upgraded and costs thousands and thousands of dollars more. So the base coupe is not a beast, it just has potential, for anyone willing to hand out that kind of cash.

But if I were willing to hand out that kind of cash, I would rather upgrade my Pony and stomp on 5.0's and more exotic cars.

I do agree, that the Gen is a sweet handling ride, its price is just too far out there.

I see cars in a different light than performance. I like cars that are rare to see on the road. Common examples are:

Hyundai Genesis Coupe
Pontiac G8
Lotus

It's one of the main reasons I hate Mustangs, Chargers, and soon Cameros. You see them all the damn time. While those cars are fast, they aren't that special or unique.

I haven't seen a K car on the road in years, so does that mean mine is unique? haha.

Keep in mind for low volume production vehicles, parts and the like will be twice the price, so you get what you pay for. My old '91 Spirit R/T put out over 200hp with it's turbo engine, but parts were hard to come by once the late 90's came, so I sold it.

Sometimes common can be good, it can even deter thieves. My 'uncommon' Spirit R/T was stolen no less than 3 times. Once, the thief even broke through my garage door when I was away one evening and boosted the car. One thing that made that car unique, was that I installed a locking gas cap, so all three times, the car turned up on fumes along the highway.

I would like to add that DRIVERS EXPERIENCE plays a key role regardless the #'s that are put down, mods, boost, or performance chips etc...
This is by personal experiences...been there done that!
