Hi everyone...the battle is still on about my steering lock up. GM is saying they have had NO reports NATIONWIDE of any other G6s steering locking up.

PLEASE HELP ME OUT!

I need to know who has had the steering lock up. Not just get stiff but completely locks and you cant budge the steering wheel. And please let me know if you have taken it in to be serviced. If you dont mind the VIN # would be nice also.

Thanks!

Feel free to email me also at [email protected]

This is a serious issue. I'm a little upset GM wouldn't even take a claim of it happening a little more seriously.

It's not a minor problem; that's a safety hazard.
If you want something to happen, file a complaint HERE:

Also, make sure to title your post appropriately so the people who need to see it will click on it.

see #4, i forwarded those VIN's to her along with the name and phone number of the person i had been dealing with at GM.

i also opened a new thread with that same info for those who have steering issues to call as well. the thread is titled; "Steering lock-up? Call this #"
I've been giving this some thought and it occurs to me that the Malibu and G6 share this same steering system (although there may be individual parts different, the basics are the same). So I went looking for similar groups to this for Malibus and found this:
http://www.donaldsensing.com/index.php/2005/08/02/urgent-for-04-05-chevy-malibu-owners/
Yes, this happened to me. Yesterday while I was driving in Nashville, my 2004 Malibu LS (33K miles) lost its steering completely. I had no directional control of the vehicle whatsoever. Fortunately (that is, by the grace of God) I had just turned into a parking lot, so I coasted straight ahead to an empty space.

But the steering wheel would not move. I had it trucked (GM paid) to a dealer, whose service rep called me later and said that the steering’s motor and controller assembly had come loose from the steering column; all the bolts holding it there had come off.

The only advance warning I had was a grinding noise coming from the column, but of course I had no idea what it portended. Now you do. Had this happened when I was driving on the interstate, which I do daily, the result could well have been fatal.
I actually found something similar on the Saab 9-3:

Hi,

I am in the same situation that you are. I took my 2004 Saab 9-3 to my local dealer today because for the third time, the engine has completely failed mid-drive. The steering wheel locks and the car stalls without any warning whatsoever.
To say that the G6 is isolated, is either disingenuous or a sign that information is entirely too compartmentalized.
EXCELLENT, RKH!!!! great find.....i had been reading alot of posts on the malibu steering and their recall, but hadn't run across this one. maybe an isolated case, but it does prove that under the right circumstances, the steering can "LOCK-UP" without any control what so ever. :agree2:
No luck with Josh Elms

Try the pontiac assistance # 1-800-762-2737...ask for Sherri Zurick. Tell her that you also have the steering lock-up that Carissa Shaffer is having. She will know for sure who you are talking about. If the rep has no clue who Sherri Zurick is tell her to pull the case with the name Carissa Shaffer/Wanda Carter and transfer you to the case owner (sherri Zurick). Flood her with calls...shes sticking to the story that Im the only one with the problem! Prove her wrong!
UPDATE: read before calling....

just spoke to Sherri Zurick. she will only be able to help (and speak with you) IF AND WHEN you have filed a complaint and have an open case with the "B.B.B."

sorry, carissa....i tried to help but she wouldn't talk to me or discuss your case because i don't have an open 'BBB' case. she suggested calling the Pontiac Customer Assistance Center (again, Josh Elms is the rep working with me) to file a complaint FIRST!!! they will then assign you a case number.
if you are calling Josh Elms, he has a limited work schedule so its possible he may take a few days to return your call. then again, if more people are calling him, it may take longer.

the Pontiac Customer Assistance Center assists owners who have had difficulty dealing with their dealer in regards to complaints and repairs.

call PONTIAC C.A.C. at 866-932-4368 Josh Elms ext is 39037 and he works saturday thru tues. he can act as a liasion between you and the dealership if you are experiencing difficulties in dealing with your service department.

good luck..........
