Hey all, been on here for a while but never really posted. Over the last couple of days my fiances car has been having problems starting up. It would turn over slowly but start. I took it to Advanced Auto and they tested the battery, alternator, and starter and they stated everything was fine and thought maybe something was draining the power. I then went to Autozone and the ran the same test and found that the Alternator was going bad.

So based off that information I bought an Alternator and replaced it last night. After replacing the alternator I let it sit for about 10 minutes and then took it for a drive. Maybe 5 minutes or so. Once I got back everything was going good. I turned off the car and the car started up almost like before the issues. Might have hesitated a half second or less I cant be sure.

Since everything was going good and I was proud of myself, I turned off the car and let the car sit over night, thinking I accomplished something. Guess what, I woke up this morning hoping everything was good, planned on taking her car instead of mine, just in case something happened and yep, the CAR WONT START..

So I am able to get lights, radio, dash, etc to work but when I go to position 2 to turn it on I get nothing. No clicking, no cranking, its like something happened from last night to this morning.

The battery on the voltmeter when dead is reading at 12.6v (same as this morning) and last night it was reading 13.20 while on. So I am at a standstill right now and do not know how to proceed. I am looking for advice from the experts here.

Thank You

12.6v sounds like a good voltage and something over 13 when running would indicate the alternator is functioning. Other fairly common issues are having the ground wires rot out. If you have jumper cables you could try jump the battery ground to the engine block / body. Other symptoms may show up on a scan tool if you have one available. For example, the PCM has to sense the transmission is in park (electronically sense it, even if the shifter is physically in park). This can again be a grounding issue or a misalignment of the transmission position sensor (I think there may have been a recall for this). There is also a starter relay and fuse. You could swap the fan and starter relay over as a test for example.

Hope some of this helps you find and fix the problem

There was a recall on my 08 Base, bought new for the cable. All they actually did was install a hose clamp, its still there/lol. You can try starting it in neutral or try in different positions while holding the key in start & E brake on & foot on the brake.

The #1 key to fixing a G6.
Learn to properly perform a parasitic ground test. The BCM function/grounding demands .050-. While .003 is the best I've obtained. .017-.020 is easily found with no drains. Till then, I'll in SHORT say welcome to the era of bcm erratic killing drains on batteries & mystery solving shorts. Since a stroke you can thank it for the free info.
