I want a nice looking, and preferably functional, hood for my 07 G6 GTP sedan. My issue is I actualy really dig the looks of the GXP hood. I dig the functionality of the MPD. Frankly the MPD looks like they molded in some stick on hood scoops into a hood. Now I grant that it is VERY nicely done. The fact remains they look like off the shelf hood scoops.

What to do what to do?

I wonder if its possible to make the stock GXP hood functional? I am sure it is but with how much work.

I think the MPD hood is a ram-air, and it comes with the kit i think. The GXP hood, the one I found, has vents, not ram-air, but air still gets in. Idk what the power gains are.

MPD - Functional Ram Air

GXP - Non-Functional but a lot of people just drill out holes in the "mesh" plastic to create airflow.

AIT - No need for drilling but not Ram Air, just airflow, replica G8 Hood (for the G6). Also available in CF.

For an example of the AIT look at my Gallery

If you have a V6 get the MPD. There are no overheating issues with our engines
so a hood to cool the bay is a waste. MPD allows you to ram air. Positive pressure in your box is ALL GOOD!!
The GXP hood vents are blocked behind them with the underside hood structual support so even drilling hundreds of tiny holes wont do anything.

I agree it does look good though but you mentioned that you wanted functional.

AIT is the only other hood with functionality. Soooo AIT or MPD. Flip a coin.

I have the MPD hood and love it. Get compliments almost daily!

I like the G8 styled hood that AIT has. Honestly my biggest concern about NOT getting the MPD is fit and finish. It appears that the MPD is as good or better than the stock hood. The MPD is fiberglass right? If so it looks very nice and not at all wavy like many other fiberglass hoods can be.

Im sure it will be useable. lol

Does the MPD weigh less or as much as the carbon fiber AIT? Idk which one to get. I'm looking for less weight, but I want more power if its not a big difference in weight.

Wouldn't carbon fiber be lighter?

Ouch Lampoon ouch. Like I said the MPD stuff does look top notch from the picturs. I have enough experience with aftermarket body parts and hoods to know that quality GREATLY differs when it comes to fiberglass. Frankly I don't want to drop $400 on the AIT G8 styled hood and have it wave back at me if you know what I mean.

I just wish the MPD was not so rounded looking...I need to see more pictures to make up my mind I think.

Let me ask you this: Did you notice a serious gain in available power when youm added the MPD ram air hood? Did it wake up the CRABS? At this point I know I really dig the AIT G8 style hood because of looks and pricing. But I would spend the extra money to get a good looking ram air style hood that actualy added power.

I wonder if anyone on here has experience with the AIT stuff to speak to its quality.

Mark I definately looked at your gallery. Great looking ride bro. So....what was your experience with the AIT product?

Obviously you like it and it looks good but how was fit and finish? Do you know how much extra work was required if any?

Thanks bro.

The fit and finish was great, the guys that installed it for me did a wonderful job (as you can see) Though, keep in mind, It's not a direct bolt on, it does require drilling.

Do you know how much extra work was required if any?

Drilling as said before, however the hood, uses all the stock hood parts and just fits right on with no problems.

Thanks bro.

Hope that helps

And there it is. Thanks bro. I am not sure the extra $300 is worth it for the MPD. I know its true ram air bla bla bla. But with a CRABS already installed how much difference in HP/TQ is that ram air going to add? Will it be about $300 worth? $300 is almost enough for a GT-R exhaust? See what I am saying here? I know I know I am trying to apply logic to speed parts.

Thanks Mark for the information. Very very helpful in aiding me in my choice.

OK lampoon show the numbers bro. Make me a believer. By my estimates and experiences with ram air does add HP. If the system of ram air delivery works well then you could gain about 15 HP or so. I know that was the difference in HP between a 02 Trans AM and a Trans Am with the WS6 ram air option.

With a roughly $300 price difference that works out to be a fairly reasonable $20 per HP given that you would gain about 15 just from the Ram Air hood.

But I am not sure if the ram air will add 15 HP, even at the flywheel, BEYOND what the CRABS will have added.

If you are so into the MPD, which is understandable given it is a nice looking product, sell it to me Lampoon.
