Racer X checkin in from Il. Currently I have an 04 GTO, with no plans on getting rid of it. I've been thinking about getting a G6 for my son. I really like the coupe's lines, but not sold on it completly yet. I'm not locked it to one car brand or the other. I think they all make good cars and the body style is what draws in the customers. Nice to be abord, see ya on the forum.

Possibly an F-body, but he's leaning tward the G6 coupe. I know they're new but there doesn't seen to be a lot of go-fast parts. Correct me if I wrong but the 3.9 seems to be a morphidite. They should have put the SC'd 3.8 and bosted the power a little. The manual trans seems like a joke too. But both of us love the body style, which is why we're leaning tward it so heavily.

Well, as an ex-owner of a 1999 Firebird V6 with the 3800, I will make a few comments.
1.) The F-Bodies platform was extremely, extremely outdated. The shifters weren't exactly great, with the manual transmission, and the quality was rather insufficient for what the cars were supposed to be.
2.) The G6 GTP coupe is a sleek, sexy car. The only angle I don't like is the rear 3/4 of the car behind the door. It looks too long, and makes the rear wheel look awkward.
3.) The GTP has a pretty damn nice shifter in the 6 speed if I do say so myself. I like how it felt in my hand. It was pretty accurate, though it felt slightly clunky.
My personal .02 is that the G6 GTP is a better performer than the V6 F-body, on the basis that it has about 40 more horsepower, and I don't think it weighs as much, though don't quote me on it.
The FBody will have more sex appeal, no doubt, but the GTP is a pretty nice car, and the 3.9L is a good engine, from what I know.

Don't worrie about the car's possibilities. I own a GTP Coupe (6 speed), although I have a tranny situation, this car is very fast. You've got too wtach yourself on a fast start, you need to keep both hands on the wheel or you'll loose it. If you find a sleeky tranny (2nd and 3rd Harshnees problem) than go for it.
