Installing Alarm

Just wondering if anyone knows if you can install an aftermarket alarm with a stock remote starter because someone told me that i could not. They said that i would have to remove the stock starter and install the alarm.. If anyone can confirm this i would appreciate it or if you have an alarm in mind without starter let me know i have an 06 G6 GT
