At wits end. 3 shops have worked on my 08 pontiac g6. 3.6 vs. Intermittent problems. Started with gauges pegging their limits, ABS lights, security lights, TC, low fuel all at once. Car typically stays running fine or a little rough. Has never stopped running during all of this. Now it starts when it feels like it. Typically mornings, but not always. Turn key, lights come on, radio, everthing, except to crank no start.
1st shop thought problem was with transmission. Checked grounds, repaired a pin connector (so they say), same problems as i drove away.
Went to a dealer, they thought it was in the security key. New keys, reflashed computer, car seemed okay, drove away, same problems. Back to dealer. They thought problem could be in one of 4 modules. $3,300 quote. Gave go ahead for engine control module but they could not get one so i picked up the car.
Auto electric engineer friend thinks grounds. We checked and cleaned all the grounds, battery good. no aha moment. Tried changing starter and solenoid, nope. Redid a major ground on block for grins, still same issue.
No crank, no start this morning. came home from work, started right up. I can drive it and it runs perfect. will park it and in the morning, typically no start again. with no start, checked all fuses and they are power up with key on.
Any thoughts???

The gauges flipping, dashboard reset and rough running could all be BCM related. There was a recall for the BCM that basically added electrical grade dielectric grease to the BCM connectors. It is cheap and easy to do. I have personally done the same to my PCM connectors, but there are people who would argue against this, so please do your own research on the PCM part.

Grounds are often an issue, you have checked those. As well as the engine block there is a body ground. It might be worth running a jump cable between the battery ground and chassis to rule that out as well.

There have been a few members that have noted cracks in the fuse box copper tracks. Some have replaced the fuse box and I think others have soldered theirs.

Hope some of that helps and you can get it fixed.

Typical morning no start.
jumped a ground between battery and block, no go. Removed, greased and reinstalled cables on body control module, no go. Went to work. Care will likely start after i get home, though not all the time.

Another option for the car not turning over is it not sensing it is in park. There was another recall for the shift selector. It might be worth running your VIN in GM's recall site to see if it is outstanding. The shifter alone is unlikely to affect the instrument cluster though.

Probably not the issue then :(

Have you tried banging / flexing the fuse box to see if you can get any change in response?
After trying a bunch of different things and sprouting a new transmission leak, I tapped out. Listed her for sale Sunday, admitted to all the electric shenanigans, and just watch her drive away. Good riddance.

I am having the same problem. I know you said you got rid of it but I thought maybe I could pick your brain. We rigged up a push button to see if we could get it to crank and start. Sure enough it started. But it won't go out of first gear. So my question to you or anyone that reads this is, could it be the neutral saftey switch? Did you try your neutral saftey switch?

I did shift the car in and out of gear and it did not help. From what I understand, try and start in neutral, it is a better place on the sensor. If that does not do it park is farther up on the sensor. (This from a very non mechanic)
