So im wondering if you guys have two keys - one that
ONLY starts the car & the other opens door/starts car.

im jw cuz this seriously pisses me off.
why cant both keys do both?

ALSO. how hard is it to replace your remotes for
remote starter ? i would just look around on the site
but lately my internet is being meaan to me.

both remotes fell apart when i was replacing the
batteries (LOL) & 1 is missing a part. so i need
to replace them. GM or where to look? ...

If your car is used, more than likely one of the keys is an extra that was crafted without a computer chip. This lets you unlock the car, but not start the car since the car refuses to start without detecting the proper chip inside the key.

Look on eBay for some FOB's. You will need to go to a dealership to get them reprogrammed though. Call around to find the best price since some places will screw you over.

That's strange. I would try squirting some lock graphite into the door lock cylinder & see if that helps. Both keys should unlock the door & start the engine as both cylinders are identically keyed.

New fobs with programming from a dealer is pretty spendy. If I couldn't fix the old ones, I'd look for them used on ebay. Make sure you get the ones with the remote start button. I would guess dealer programming will be in the $100 neighborhood to do both at once. Maybe more.

If it's the battery contact arm that fell off that can be re-soldered if you can find it.

thanks for the input guys i really appreciate it.

& actually abyssul, both keys start the car.
but only one opens the door. so now i'm paranoid
i'll lose the door one. obviously this isn't normal
so i should just contact the dealership?

i dont have onstar so if i lose the door one i'll be s.o.l

& when i went to change the battery to the
starter a piece fell out and i never did find it
so i'll just have to order off ebay & bring to
the dealership. seen some as low as $20.

so thats good news about the starter.
i just dont get why i only have one key that
opens the door. maybe the dealership takes one?

I can't explain why both will work in the ignition cylinder but only one works in the door lock cylinder. If lock graphite does not help, I'd try a locksmith before going to a dealer. Maybe that key just needs a little buffing. Also, any hardware store can make a spare key that unlocks the door (but won't start the car) for a couple bucks. I hide one in the outside mirror for when I get locked out.

If by the starter you mean the fob, what fell out was the battery upper contact arm. Common problem with GM fobs. If you could find that arm it could be soldered back onto the board & it would be good as new.
