Can you get the codes read? I'm thinking this is an ABS issue (so you'll need a code reader that supports ABS).I found that my car's transmission is shifting hard and the "Traction Off" light stays on. It only shifts hard when the light is on (once in a blue moon it goes off). I thought I cleaned the MAF sensor well, but apparently not. Would an O2 Sensor be the cause of the hard shifts? I had it checked and I had O2 Sensor, Catalytic Converter, and MAF Sensor codes. I'm a college student so I can't really afford to replace all of these things at once. Please help!!
In my experience, the computer will disable traction control when there's an ABS issue. And that issue is often just a damaged wire between the wheel speed sensor (ie, the wheel hub) and the computer.
Furthermore, hard shifting is often a sign of the transmission maxing out on the shift pressure, P1811 code, I believe. Its code description includes "max adaptive shift" as I recall. As long as it continues shifting, I wouldn't worry too much about it I'm not sure if it could also cause the Traction Off condition.
I suggest first going to a parts store and seeing if they can read some codes.
