Not the best angle, but does this timing chain look saggy to you? I also noticed it's missing the nylon guides so the timing chain has been slapping against that metal.

Metal to Metal will put metal bits in the oil. Then the oil pump pics up the oil and pumps oil to the oil filter. This puts much accelerated wear on the oil pump.
In my Cavalier I let it continue, and before long I was needing to run oil thickner. And shortly after that it was time to drive it to the wrecking yard - Admittedly the $1000 car was not worth fixing.
