As much as I love the car, my gas gauge likes to tell me that I have less gas then what I have. Appearently some other people are having the same issue. Yesterday the needle was BELOW E but when I filled it up it didn't even take 14 gallons in a 16 gallon tank.

The other G6 forum I like to lurk in had someone that had the same issue and they said to change something with the fuel trim which really doesn't make sense so I need all your opinions. I'm out of the Pontiac warrenty but have a carmax one but I don't want to spend $75 by going to a dealer just so they can tell me nothing's wrong with it.

That is normal. We had this discussion back in 2005.
This was what we concluded:

Pontiac does not want to leave anyone stranded on the side of the road so your
gasstank will read empty when in fact you will have a gallon and a half left (on average).

Thats gives you 50 miles or so to find a filling station.

Just keep in mind when it dings you have around 50 miles to go.

Your DIC will confirm this if you track it prior to the light going off
but once the light does go then it will default to a low gas reading on your display.


Sooooooo your car is normal. Just factor that in to your driving habits.

Thanks, I didn't look that far back in the threads. I would think that Pontiac would give us a little credit and we would know that you have to fill up before you hit E.

Im sure its the result of some lawsuit against Pontiac.

They could always change the gas guage....
