your DIC can be saved but you will need the metra or scortch (sp?) kit.

Do a search for metra on here. Lots of info with pix and part numbers.

You need the following to replace your factory radio.

PAC 0S-311B GM Radio Integration Adapter.(MSRP $190.00)(This will retain door chimes, turn signal noise and car notificationsand allow you to run sound through the factory speaekrs.)

Metra 99-3303 Radio dash kit. MSRP$180

I'm assuming you have the Monsoon factory system*

whats the PAC do? reroute the sounds?? I thought the BCM regulated that through the speaker attached to the back of the speedo cluster....??
It would be awesome to have that sound come out the radio speakers.

It does but it plays through your driver side speaker through the radio, If you go through your DIC and make it louder it's much more noticeable

It would be awesome to have that sound come out the radio speakers.
BONG BONG BONG..... lol

Door Bong, Turn Singal's(yes there digital), Alerts, and Onstar

I went to my local automotive electronics shop and they ordered up the Metra kit for me. The kit alone came to about 160. I also needed a special wiring harness to be compatible with the monsoon system and that came to about 90. So, not counting the aftermarket stereo, it ran me about 250. But looking at other people's prices I apparently got a good deal. :)
Add on another 50-60 bucks if you don't plan on installing it yourself.

Its a preference.
If you want to keep that little one line display of your oil, trip, mpg, etc...
You can put it somewhere visible like your dashbox or middle glovebox for easy veiwing.
Its not necessary for installation, i did it without.

This is all so confusing. So if I wanted to replace my stock single disc Monsoon head unit with say a Pioneer AVIC-X710BT and keep my DIC, but reroute it to say the glovebox, or center console.. what would I need exactly? The entire list of parts? So with the Head Unit costing between 500-600, how much more would I be looking to spend?
