so just picked up my rims, i now need to get tires!
rim size is 18x7.5

im looking for american brand only!

went to discount tire, guy there said biggest i can put is 245/40/18
he said best tire would be coope rs3a? i believe thats what its called
he never told me anything about running a 225-235

guy at belle tire said i should stay with stock size but go with 225/50/18
because if i go wider, the tire will not sit right with rims, i will have 'too much tire on them'
i do have eibachs on my car

i have to check tire rack but idk what to choose..
would like to keep price of tire between around 160 each

Tire rack is a great source, All the information to buy a good tire is there. as far as sizing goes a 225/50/18 should fit pretty well.
a 225mm tire is a little over 8.5" wide. So it'll sit wider on the rim as it is. You don't want to go with too wide of a tire, I've heard of the tire slipping from the rim, or more commonly just rubbing issues.

Check out this tire rack tech article.

Give you a good idea of it all and maybe with some measuring you can get some real good fitment going.

I would suggest searching for those tires on TireRack.com And look at the surveys. You'll see the ratings for comfort, noise, dry and wet traction. And really useful customer reviews.

I went with Kumho Ecstas 4x, it's an Ultra high performance all season tire... And I love em!

I'd say go with a good summer tire, But don't sacrifice the noise level for performance. I really sticky grippy tire is going to be loud, It'll drive GREAT but is it worth the everyday drive? I guess if you plan to have quite a bit of fun racing around and stuff then it's worth it. I've seen really good summer tires around the web they look like they'll offer fantastic grip, but still handle water extremely well. While preserving a quiet comfortable ride. Though the tread patterns may not be as attractive and more generic looking.

Hi,

You mentionned YOKOHAMA previously....3 weeks ago i put new YOKOHAMA Avid Ascend (225-50-17) on my G6, 08, 3.5L. There new model of 2012. Extra silent , excellent on dry and wet pavement. They touring tires or summer tires if you want. No good at all in the snow (living in Montreal i have also 4 snow tires). Treadwear of this model is 740 . Look at this indicator cause it's give an idea of the lifetime of the tire (also depend how you drive) Paid 720$ -installed and my pressure sensors calibrated from a small shop of a friend of mine. This model is available for your size 225-50-18 and fit for 7 inches rim.
Since 18 inches tires are more expensives than 17, you should add at least an 100$ for the whole set. But again, lower is treadwear number, less milleage you gonna do with the tires. I wouldnt buy a tire with a treadwear lower than 500. Low numbers mean soft gum-mean tires could last maby only 20 K M. So in paying more, your tires could at least twice. If you oriented your choice for american tires, again, look at the treadwear.

Good luck and hope you wil find what is more suitable for your car
