Hello to all pontiac g6 owners.
There is an new extended policy that just came out on may 25 2012 regarding the steering column issue, the new policy states that if you are having issues with your steering lockup, gm will replace the steering column free on pontiac g6 2006, or by vin numbers, call gm to make sure. up to 240,000 kms or 10 years. I schedueled an app with my dealer to get this done

What about clunking when turning the steering wheel?
I had to re-lube and re-position the i-shaft every couple of years.

no bro, i guess thats not included, unfortunally. just the steering column will be replaced for free on pontiac g6's 2006 with the right vin#, i also tried to get gm to put on a new steering module, which i believe it is also an issue, thats not included either, its funny how the module is not included being an escencial piece for the whole electric steering system to work properly. Call your dealer, or GM, and get ur column fix, its free so might as well do it, the parts manager at the dealer said we will be getting letters on the mail from gm, regardless of the letter you should call anyways to get this fixed before you reach the 240,000 kms or 10 yrs, i was out of the first policy when it came out, and spread the voice out there, im pretty sure there will be many of us with the same issue

My first steering issues

Hi all! This is my first post ever.
My 2008 G6 just gave me my first heart attack in the parking lot. Just came from a practice round with my wife (she's planning to get her license) and she said it is really hard to turn the wheels. When I tried I noticed that is it very hard. I got behind the wheel and tried to drive around the lot a bit, but no success. There was no power in the power steering. After I turned off the engine and on again, everything was back to normal. I've been reading this and other forums and I panicked: many steering issues with the G6. Any suggestions? What should I do/fix?

Thanks

I have a 2008 G6 like you. There should have been a recall on the power steering, not sure if it varies from the sedan to the coupe tho. I own the sedan. And I needed it replaced around 38,000 miles.

Do you have to get the power steering failure message for them to replace it? Also, I wonder if they will replace even if I've had the i-shaft replaced before?

I took my 2006 G6 to the dealer because of the same steering problem and I was told that I had to replace the Assist Motor Module before they could do anything about my vehicle. The quote was 749.00 and the decided to give me a discount since I complained. The new price was 560.00. I really wonder how many if any vehicles that were affected by this recall dated May 2012 were repaired or actually made in 2006. I spoke to a district specialist and he told me that the vehicle was old (6) years and that I should expect some repairs to occur. There were 15 other signals alarming but before that could be addressed I had to fix the module. I told the district specialist that I wanted to speak to the next level. I am not fond of the internet but since my quest for justice I have been to every website and read everyones complaint. GM should do the right thing and repair vehicles even if the VIN was not recalled.

Since its been a while since I checked in here, I will ask a serious question, my 2006 G6 suffers from intermittent loss of power steering. This is a definite safety hazard, OF COURSE, has GM issued any service or modification recalls. What if this kills somebody some day, are they going to bear some of the responsibility? I am so pissed off with this vehicle, I will NEVER buy GM again. I have told everyone I know about this situation, including Transport Canada and everyone turns a deaf ear. Whats with this?
GM doesn't deserve to have survived the financial chaos, the automakers went through in the last few years, bastards.

My 2007 G6 is not covered

I started having the steering issue last week. I looked on the net and this forum and found the TSB that extended the warranty to 150K miles or 10 years. Unfortunately it only covers 2005, 2006 and 2008. GM skipped the 2007 models even though there were complaints about them also. I am waiting for the dealer to call me to pick up the car. Price quoted was $675.57 after tax. I feel violated at this point. Aside from that I found other problems I may expect with this vehicle. My wife insisted I get the G6 even though I was not that impressed by it. She fell in love with it at first sight. See if I listen to her again. I am actually thinking of trading it in and get as far from GM as possible.
