Hello,

My G/F is looking for a new(er) car and so far the G6 GXP is her favorite (even over the '10 Maro auto SS- which was a turd).
I'll admit the GXP is a sweet lookin little car, and looks to be able to hold its ground on the street from what I'm seeing on you tube.
The GXP (3.6L A6) would be replacing a very mildly modded 04 GP GTP, so my questions are:

-any real maintenance issues?
-where is the aftermarkert? Seriously? CAI and overpriced tune is it??
-Common "breakage" items-like axles?
-yes I will search some more-but after several hours I figured I'd just join here and cut the B.S

So a little about me, just in case we do end buying this GXP (I like it so we probably will).
I live in Columbus, OH manage inventory for the now #3 appliance manufacturer in the world. My daily driver is a 2007 AWD 550HP Trailblazer SS (dyno 420awhp), and I have a garage baby which is a now stock 2000 GP GTP which is mint. I've owned 16 97+ Grand Prix's and built 42 which ran 10s to 14s.
I do most of my own auto work, and minor tuning via both HPT and DHP PT.

Any help, questions, anything? Thanks,
Jeremiah

The 3.6 is a sweet engine. I wish I had that in my G6.

Any upgrades? drilled/slotted rotors or stainlesslines available?
I would think I can get upgraded rotors and pads through rotorpros.net for ~$200 or so.

2008 I beleive...I didnt ask-lol.
Sedan-she has to have a 4dr, I wish she would've told me before we drove the Camaro SS-lol
She likes the red/marroon, but they have a black one at the dealership that was just turned in on lease-so that is the we'll try to get.

steering shaft-PLEASE EXPLAIN?
front end issues-like bad suspension? Would a set of energy suspension bushing fix this along with some upgraded end links?

I don't really want to come to expect things-unless its a specififc known issue with a known working fix or upgrade.

Thanks for the input so far guys!!!!

So she found "the car" I guess. We are picking it up Saturday in Akron.

Now we need some mods!!!

Where to get:

STB
tune (w/ HPTuners so I can revert if needed)
CAI
Drilled slotted rotors (trying rotorpros first)
energy suspension bushings for fr and rr sways
upgraded endlink bushings (unless they're the stupid bar type)
Underdrive pulley
what are the best spark plugs for these cars
overlays for "GXP" , arrowhead and all other badges
window vent visors
and we are going to tint to 20%

Hope we can have all that done by July 4th ;)
Go big or go home right?

Yes...several aftermarket rotor & pad places will set you up on the brakes....
Unless you wanna spring for Brembo calipers...?

There is a group buy going on on a very nice strut bar - Clicky here
HP tuners does not support our platform anymore so you may wanna look at the few places that have experience with the G6. I bought a WAMS tune and have been very happy with it.
CAI?.....trick question. lol Did you end up getting the 3.6? If so your choices are limited. K&N and Injen doesnt make an intake for the Pontiac G6 3.6 platform. Crabs does....but crabs itch! lol

Motor mounts can be done pretty cheap...

Spark plugs....no need to mess with those till you hit 100k...

Overlays or replacement concept darts??

Vent visors? not a fan but I think PFYC is a local vendor on this site and I believe they sell them Here

Tint? Yes....stay away from metal tint on the back glass as your am/fm antenna is in the back glass and it will kill 60%+ of your reception.

Thanks for the info.
I saw the GB for the STB, but I don't want to get in on it until we physically have the car-if you know what I mean.

As far as the tune-HPT shows supporting the G6 GXP and there's a few user written files. I'll know for sure the first time I hook up to it I guess.

Why doesn't anyone like the vent visors??? see pic-this is MY daily driver (and the garage baby in the background):

ZZP- shows ZERO support for the G6...I was thinking about calling Tim or Matt and see what they could do for us (since Zoom isnt around much).

Anyone know what size the sway bars are or correct E.S PN for the sway bar bushings?

Ya my steering "clunked" when you turn the steering wheel. The dealer said that is a common problem with the G6/Malibu steering.

Thanks, I ended up finding info on the "clunking" in the steering shaft. Looks like theres a descent fix for it, and the car only has 28k miles so we should good for a while.

Also, I cant post in G.B for the STB, why??? I would like one, but don't want to commit until we have the car officially.
