Hello,

I tried to change my oil this weekend but the drain plug bolt is stripping. I couldn't even get good grip with my vise grips. My wrench seemed to get a hold, but kept skipping forward. The bolt seems to be a softer metal. Any advice to get it off?

Also, the soft rubber weatherstripping along the bottom of my driver side doorframe is developing a crack down the middle and pulling away from itself. Can I use RTV sealant to glue it back together, and will that repair last? If not, any idea how much that weatherstripping might be to replace?

Thanks for any help!

check gmpartsdirect for the weatherstrip. as far as the drain plug goes, not to make you sound stupid but are you sure you were using a 13mm socket and turning the right way?

I'll check that site out, thanks. I'm guessing it's doubtful that my RTV idea would work?

Yes, it was a 13mm but it felt slightly loose. I was definitely turning it the right way, but there was no movement at all, until the socket would disengage and hop to the next tooth.

I'll go ahead and try it again tonight just to be sure. I believe I was turning it the right way, but that is the kind of dumb mistake I've made in the past.

when your under the car, push a wrench or socket from the driver side towards the passenger side, and try putting it on, the hit the bottom of the ratchet with your palm with force. Sometimes it just needs a little bump to get loose. I did my oil change yesterday and thats what i had to do to get mine off.
