Apparently I'm the only one on the planet with the absolute bare minimum base sedan. I don't even have cruise control.

Anyway, has anyone ever painted the STL8068 steel wheels? I can't really afford rims right now and the hub caps look horrible.

I painted my steelies. Although mine are the 5 spoke the process is the same. Sand. Prime with sealer primer. Paint then clear for Max shine. The sealer primer will help prevent rusting and prolong the clean look. Just gotta decide what color to go with lol

Hey thanks. Yours look mean. I always feel like I'm the only one on the planet that doesn't have rims. I figure if I take the hubcaps off it won't look any worse, but it also won't look any better. Was just wondering if painting them will help.

Painting them can help make it more custom. Or you can clean em up just to have em look nicer.
You can also get a different set of hubcaps.

I have always hated the Value Leader(Base) model hubcaps. My friend has one, and she hates that mine are better looking than hers. I can't stand hubcaps/wheel covers. I am going to have my stock 5 spoke painted.

When sanding a wheel...what grid sand paper would you recommend? and is their a certain motion or direction you sand the wheel?...i want to paint mine all black and maybe add a dark gray like or red like around the wheel base...this is just temporary til i buy some nice wheels that give it a stock/sporty look, im not into chrome or none of those big a$$ wheels lol

If the wheel is fairly clean, as in no serious rust spots or other corrosion then I usually use these scuff pads:

I scuffed mine just by running it around the edge and up and down each spoke and through the hub, Pattern doesn't really matter here.

If there are some trouble areas then you can hit it with some 80 grit and take it down progressively to probably a 320 or so.
What you're trying to do here is rough up the entire surface so the primer has something to stick to. It doesn't have to be bare metal, just make the entire wheel look all crappy flat. Make sure you blow it out/wipe it out well before the primer too.

Brand doesn't really matter, just try to avoid the absolute cheapest crap that's out there. I went to mendards to browse their spray paint section. I'm pretty sure the color I chose was made by rustoleum. The primer was just your standard gray primer sealer. And for the clear any should work. I think there may even be a wheel specific clear out there too but I don't quite remember.

Yea I like these forums over most. The worlds full of asses and it seems they all practice their asshatery online. Good idea waiting for tires first. They chipped the hell out of my paint when I got new tires.
And as always, glad I could help!

@CrusinG6 any suggestions on what color might look good with my transition blue gold metallic sometime grey or silver looking paint job? O.O

Hmm that's a tough one to compliment. Maybe silver or something similar. I'd say go check out the spray paint aisle and see what colors are available. Maybe something will spark your interest.

A glossy black would look pretty good I think. I feel like I could really pull off gold wheels with this one. Not sure if I have the balls though.

Do it. If you don't like it. Change it. I ran black for a while before going vintage copper. And I've recently been considering a new color lol

Hubcaps are lame but I find the stock one really suit the styling of the G6.
All the after-market hubcap people put on look tacky and much worse.
