Reading MIL code

Hi folks, just joined this forum and have question.

I have a 2006 Pontiac G6 with a MIL light. Is there any way to read the error code without a scantool. On some vehicles turning the igition switch on - off - on - off - on, all within 5 second will cause the error code to be displayed.

Anything similar with th G6?
