I currently own a 2001 Grand Am GT and I am in the market for a new car...the G6 disappoints me

Things I don't like...

* Exterior styling is slightly feminine - but I could look past that
* Interior has cheap plastic
* Rear bumper, lower black plastic extension. Most of the G6's I see down the road have that fluttering in the draft, or it's uneven from all the pressure against it.
* Black mirrors on all cars.
* ABS optional - and most dealers around here choose not to stock them with the ABS option.
* Wish you could just get a sunroof, not packaged with all kinds of other crap.

And the most annoying "feature" is that they moved the door locks back up onto the top of the interior door panel. For people, like myself, that enjoy putting their arm/elbow up there when the window's down on a nice day, it rips right into your skin.

Overall, I like that they made side curtain air bags standard. The styling is ok.
The price is ok. I like it enough to keep looking at it, just can't seem to pull the trigger on it or others yet.

Also looking at Ford Fusion, Mazda 6, Chevy Impala, Acura TSX

Ok, don't get a G6. Because the cheap grey plastic and crushed velour interior of the 2001 Grand Ams was far superior. The G6 styling certainly cannot say "Boy Racer" near as well as a Grand Am, either. And checking the option box that says "ABS" is a royal pain in the ass. As for the door latches, far as I know, no one has been seriously injured by them (yet). Reference the thread "Your Annoyances."
All of the other cars you are considering sound pretty good. Get one and then post about what you hate about it after your purchase.

Errrrr....Exterior stlye feminine? Cant really agree with you on that one. Cheap looking interior? As a big Pontiac fan and supporter I can honestly say that with the only exception being the Sunfire, the Grand-Am has one of the cheapest looking interiors on the road, I owned one and have riden in several. ABS optional? Not on my 06 GT it wasnt. As for the "other crap" packaged with the sunroof you refer to, yeah that would be correct if you consider a 6-disc changer, 8 speaker system, and 17" chrome wheels crap!? And the side curtain airbags are not standard, not sure which car or trim level your speaking of. Also remember what price bracket your in, your not gonna get a car that "looks" like its worth 35K for one that costs 25K.

I read that side curtain airbags are now standard in '07. And yeah, I wouldn't consider all of the goodies you "have to get" with the sunroof chopped liver. The stereo and CD changer rock. Wish there was an MP3 input, but oh well. The only real cheap plastic I see inside the car is on the lower door panels. I like the rest of the interior, so I dont look at/touch the lower door plastic, and it helps a lot...

Yeah im refering to the 06' models on which the side curtain airbags were not standard. It boils down to this, anyone who says/thinks the interior of the G6 is/looks cheap either A: has never really owned a cheap car (check out the inside of a Kia or Hundai), or B: is comparing it to cars above its price range. I did lots of research before buying my G6 and ill be the first to tell you that there isnt much better out there that compares for the price. Heres the skinny: The 06 GT (the model I own) Gives you TONS for the sticker price, and adding another 1500 for a sunroof, 17's, a 6 disc changer and a 8 speaker system...cmon its a no brainer! There are two types of people, the type that own and love this car and the type that will find things wrong with ANYTHING!

Yeah, the interior is a huge step up from the Cobalt (can't say about the G5), and my sister paid 19K for her coupe. And she got a loaded one, but not the SS/Supercharged. I paid only 2K more for my loaded GTP coupe, and it is in a different league altogether.

Yeah I wanted a GTP but couldnt find one at the base price, there were only a few and they were loaded so it put them out of my price range. Instead i got a GT coupe loaded for around 23K

i still don't understand why people keep referring to the g6's interior as "cheap plastic" when i get in and look around i see absolutely nothing wrong with the interior. There's a few things that bother me about the car but nothing that would cause me to second guess my choice to buy one. Also about the feminine looking part, not really sure what you find feminine about it. There's lots of guys that own these things. But anyway, out of your choice of cars i would have picked the g6 over them easily. Just my thoughts.

not everybody needs big rims and fancy radios in there cars to enjoy them. i can understand it would be a serious turn off to be forced to pay for additional, undesired options just to get a sunroof.

K, first of all, 17's are not really considered big. Secondly, if you consider a 6-disc changer fancy, your way out of the audio loop. And your right, there not a big deal to everybody but when you consider that a sunroof alone will cost you about what, 8-900 bucks, most people (which is why they package everything together) opt for the package.

THANK YOU!!! Ive been reading posts on this board for two days now and cant understand what they are looking at!? What looks cheap!? I think the interior of this car is way above average looking!

gimme a break you clown. compared to the stock 16s they are bigger. compared to the stock radio the 6 disk changer is fancy. i'm not comparing it to a ****ing rolls royce or some stupid homeboys block crushing sub setup. they are being compared as options to their counterparts which do not come with the sunroof. i still don't understand why you would want to piss away money on options you don't want, but whatever it's your money.

hahaha c'mon are you for real? first of all, don't make the mistake of believing that i care what you think of me. the 17s are bigGER. ya happy now? the 6 disk is MORE fancy. how about that? you can go be mr. nitpicky about that crap now if you want. the point still stands, who wants to pay for options that they don't want other than you? this person talks about trying to buy their car their way and and you come in trying to tell them there is nothing wrong with the aditional options that they don't want and then have the gall to tell me I am contradicting myself? that's rich.

actually it's just a non-HD rear projection so i am sure compared to newer TVs it isn't really fancy. in fact it may be LESS fancy.
