Replacing '06 Head Unit Help

2812 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  lazarus2297
I have a 2006 G6 Base with the plain Jane single disk radio. I NEED an aux input. Best ways to do that?

There are FM adapters I saw to plug into my antenna things I've seen. Those work? How clear and good is the sound?

I'd much rather just install a 2008 oem radio in mine but my '06 has one big plug in the back while the '08 has two big plugs in the back. Please help! You're talking to someone who knows nothing about audio
electronics... I thank you in advance!!!

The 08 plugs right in. Well it did on my 05. You will need to have it programed with a tech 2 at a dealership to your vin though. Dealership can be free all the way up to $80 to do that. So shop around. There is a HOW TO on G6performance if the service tech doesnt know how to do it. It will walk him though it on the tech2.

I dont remember the plug setup on mine... Maybe I took a snap....its been a few years. lol

I was wondering the same thing how do you get around the plugs being different on the back of the head unit
I actually did my '06 to '08 upgrade a while back; the plugs SHOULD be the same; as for the extra slot, its just for the XM radio; it's not a big deal if its not plugged in; it wasn't an option for the '06 anyway. As Lampoon said, it will need to be reprogrammed; you should have no issues after that.

Thanks again for your help with that, Lampoon.
I just completed this same swap, except I have an 07. I found an 08 in the junkyard with the aux input, purchased it for $33. I completed the swap, and like others have said no issues other than getting it unlocked, and that wasn't an issue other than I had to pay $73. In my case the stock unit in my 07 was not in good condition lots of worn off paint, so for right around $100 for a new looking unit with the AUX I am happy!
