In an effort to provide better customer support and head off problems before they get out of control, General Motors has created a new "task force" aimed at monitoring social media sites for complaints about GM vehicles and looking to find solutions.

A report in the Detroit Free Press highlights the story of one woman, Melissa Walker, whose complaints about her 2001 Cadillac DeVille on Twitter were picked up by GM's new team of customer service agents. GM wasn't able to solve the problem, but Walker was left with a positive feeling about the experience, and Tweeted to say as much – exactly what GM is looking for.

Last July GM set up a team of 50 customer service agents to chat online with people about sales incentives and vehicle options. In November, five social media agents were added to hunt out complaints online and that team is set to be doubled in April.

Now if GM's task force is doing its job, someone from the team will likely be reading this story. If they are, might be suggest they not only scour Facebook and Twitter, but the comments sections of news blogs, like our own. As an example, see the link below on a story we ran about an investigation into Chevy Cobalt steering issues, which got tremendous response before GM officially announced a recall.

Im sure it would be easier to have a cross talk with the service advisers and techs...NOT

To those jackasses everything is normal, like gears grinding in the manual trannys....or the starters hanging up during engine start when the key is released....

This tells me that GM does not trust the dealer service ship that is why they are scouring the net for customer complaints.

That's right. The dealers are the front line for customer complaints. All they have to do is just fix the top 5 reported defects and GM's reputation will drastically improve when it comes to product quality.

How about a steering system overhaul, decent brake job so my rotors wont warp 500 miles after driving and free tranny replacement.

It's not just to find complaints, but I'm sure it's also to counter them too. For example someone to come across as an expert and say.... it's not a problem with the rotors or braking system design it's because you didn't tighten lug nuts in the right sequence and torque specs or you probably didn't bed in properly or your not using OEM equipment. Or it could be to market new or alternative products... such as "i know it really stinks GM did away with the Pontiac and the G6 line, but have you tried the Malibu. It's honestly just as sexy. I test drove one the other day and swear that two really hot babes... and I mean like model babes blew me kisses... and a hunky guy and I'm pretty sure he was a model too." Lol, doesn't really have to be all blatent, could just be "i test drove the malibu and it's got a smooth ride and good power".

As for complaints... yea what's up with the wipe blades? I use rain X so don't need the fancy blades, so 10-15 should be the cost for two... not $35-40 for special ones
