I've tried looking this up on here to no avail, and hopefully this is in the right spot admin. I wasn't sure where to put this thread so I figured I'd start generally. I have an 05 G6 and I've gotten about 3-4 different safety recall notices the past few months and I haven't taken the time to get the repairs done because I'm worried about how long it could take to get my car done. I'm wondering what the average wait time is by people who have had the recalls taken care of.

I've also done some reading about the repairs, namely the power steering and I'm wondering if it's worth getting fixed because of the responsive steering thereafter? Any insight would be helpful. Unfortunately there are only a few places around me that could do the repairs, but only 1 or 2 that I would actually trust to do so.

I had the BCM connector and the transmission detent retainer recalls done - only took about an hour total.

Your power steering pump recall shouldn't take any longer than an hour or two. You can call the service department of your local GM dealer and ask them what the book time is on the repair. My wife had a power steering pump recall done on her G5, and she recalls that it was not as responsive as it used to be, but not so much that it's difficult to get used to.

The important thing is that if that steering fails (you have a drive by wire system in that car) then you lose positive control of the vehicle. There is no mechanical connection from the wheel to the rack. This was only done in the 05 and 06 model years, since owners complained about the "soft" feel of the steering. GM went back to a traditional rack for 07.

From a standpoint of safety, I strongly suggest having your recalls brought up to date sooner rather than later.

You are correct about the I4's mrslcom - thanks for posting that. My brain defaults to the V6 most of the time....

Either way it's electric steer for his 05.
