Slight "pop" in front end on take-off

I've only had my G6 GT (2007) for a few days and am loving it. However, I have noticed a slight "pop" (or thump) when accelerating from a stop or turning at low speeds (usually accelerating then too). It is hard to tell where it is coming from, but feels like from right behind the steering column. I was wondering if it could be a suspension issue (car has 29k miles on it). My wife's Buick Rendezvous was doing something similar at 35k miles and had to have both front outer tie-ends replaced. Is it normal for the G6 to have a little pop (and it is VERY minor, btw) or something I should have the dealership look at?

Thanks.

Hello, Did you find out what the issue was? My car is having very similar issues. I was coding P0016 and P0017; knew it had something to do with my timing. Also, my check gas cap sensor would show up periodically. I changed the crankshaft sensor. Now, it slow starts (purrs once it starts though), knocks on acceleration (like yours), and my tachometer isn't working properly. I'm thoroughly confused...
I'm a little nervous...I just bought an 08 this week, drove off the lot, discovered it has a brake light issue, fob didn't work (not battery), headlight went out, back door doesn't lock when using key fob, had to put a new sensor on wheel, have that annoying popping sound, and today tried the cruise with no luck! It sounds as if these might be common issues for the g6. I thought I had done some pretty good research from reviews, etc, but now realizing there are lots of issues. One of the guys are dealership seems frustrated at all the issues, but it's not like I broke the darn thing. I love driving it, it's fun. It's only got 62k on it, I did buy an extended aftermarket warranty, hopefully it will cover most of whats wrong if the dealer ends up telling me tough luck. I have an appointment on Monday to get the taillight situation fixed and the steering column fixed also under recall. Hoping I can get the cruise and popping noise fixed also. For those of you who had the intermediate shaft replaced, did that fix it long term? Thanks for your help, I'm hoping for some encouragement, I think the car is adorable and like the way it drives, just bummed, I feel like I bought a big problem...:(

I had a 06 GTP and I have a 07 GT that both have that same popping noise described. It has bothered me but seeing how people have reported this going back many years I'll attribute it to an inherent flaw in the car.
Also, my 06 had 100k before I got rid of it, and my current has 130k, leaving it alone doesn't seemt to be a problem.
Steering Pop

Took my '07 G6 (25k miles) to the dealership last week with the "popping" noise in the steering column when performing slow speed turns. They diagnosed it as a bad intermediate shaft...and of course, had to order a replacement. Haven't taken it back in to have the new i-shaft installed yet. Hopefully this will fix the issue, but I expect the pop to re-appear when the new i-shaft gets some wear (unless the replacement parts have been redesigned.) From other replies I've seen on this thread, it sounds like there may be several potential causes of the noises.

Is anyone else having vibrations when the brakes are applied (especially at high speeds). It feels like the rotors are warped, but they started vibrating with only 20k miles on them...I'm not relpacing rotors every 20k miles!
There has to be an aftermarket solution for the i-shaft problem. I'll do some checking around and see if I can find one built a little better than the stock part. If I find anything I'll post a link.
I found these. I'm not sure if they are any better since they are reman but I know some companies fix known issues when they reman a stock part. https://www.carparts.com/details/Pontiac/G6/Dorman/Steering_Shaft/2006/RB425156.html

Hello...
Another thing that can give a thump from a stop, is motor mounts. The engine has some free movement due to the torque it generates (every action has an equal and opposite reaction) if the mounts are worn out. Since the engine is mounted transversely-sideways- that motion is front to back. Or maybe back to front, I don't remember. Not saying that's it, but one other possibility

Just thought of another possibility- there could be a brake caliper sticking-not releasing the rotor. this actually happened on my wife's '06 G6.....
I'd never seen this before, but that's exactly what I found on the right rear caliper. Not sure why it was stuck, but I'm thinking rust. When I went to collapse the piston into the caliper, it was extremely hard to do. I had the parts to replace everything, but you still have to release the rotor, to get it apart

Have you check the motor mounts and if that is the problem go with solid polys and you'll never have a problem out of them again
I just started driving my 2008 GT G6 Vert. When I take my foot off the brake at a light and just start to move the steering wheel jerks slightly to the left. I know my right side tie rod needs replacing. I have that on order. I really don't think that is the problem. I will follow up on this as soon as I replace it. It could also be a brake issue as the rotors are rusted up a bit. I have new ceramics pads for all four wheels on the way and will be turning the slotted and drilled rotors on the car at that time.

The problem was the right rear lower control arm bushing. It was so bad that it had about a half inch of play in it.

Another issue that came up about a clunk when turning was that my drivers side ball joint was rusted really bad and was clunking when I was stopped and turned the wheel. Now the front end is all done with new hubs, slotted rotors, ceramic brakes, outer tie rods, sway bar links and both lower control arms.
