Steering sometimes very stiff at low speeds

Hi all,

Curious if anyone else is having this problem - the EPS on our '05 V6/base is occasionally very stiff at low speeds. Parallel parking, pulling out of the garage, etc. Becomes so stiff it almost feels like there is no power assist. Other times (in the same location even), it's perfectly fine.

Normal? Bad? Inherent to the '05s?

We've had it in half a dozen times, they've reprogrammed, replaced, etc. It had the pop/tick from the steering wheel fixed, too. Never been "right"

I drove a 2008 for comparison (it was actually a loan car when our other car was in for service)... steered much more naturally.

I ran across this article today http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/21700042/detail.html after reading it I did some research to see if any G6's were affected. Could be possible that your 6 (especially older models) had it's steering column manufactured by JTEKT North America which runs it's automotive division in Wixom, MI. If you read the article I posted you'll notice this was an internal problem that GM is just now fessing up to.
