Thermostat Change

Newbie here to determine some issues.

I have a 2008 V6 with the 3.5 I believe.

Here is the thing, I have been reading in the forums to see if anyone matches my problems and I can't find anyone who has had the exact same thing.

It started in that the fans stay on after I turn off the car. It varies in how long or how fast they are going because after I shut it off despite the fact that the temp gauge reads in the area of 225 every time. I have heard mixed opinions as to whether or not that is high.

I found out the hard way that I can no longer get heat when the car is sitting at a stand still and it is freezing outside. Go over 55 on the highway I get some heat but very little. Still temp gauge still reads normal. I have pretty much well determined it is the thermostat staying in the open position but not incredibly sure how to change.

Anyone agree that it is the thermostat or ever changed one? I have a Haynes Manual for the car but the picture leads something to be desired.

Thanks!!

Thanks to both of you. I hadn't thought that it would be that simple. I have been putting in coolant and have seen better results. It is now down about 185 degrees and I now have heat!!

As anyone knows these bad boys are never really a treat to work on so I suspected much worse!!!

Thanks again!
