Touchscreen into 2007 gtp with monsoon

Hey everyone. Im nee to the forum and although my car isnt a pontiac, my friend has purchased a pioneer for his car and wants me to install it. Basically the question is, is there any special precautions for the monsoon system? Will he lose the little lcd screen with info and settings? Is there a way to keep it, and if so, does it still allow you to alter the settings? He doesnt care about steering wheel controls.
