use the manual mode and flick it into second gear when pulling out from a stop. Here in calgary we get all sorts of shitty weather (and my 06 g6 gt still has allseasons on it because of the new laws in ontario that make winter tires MANDATORY there). But basically, the ratios for second gear provide less torque than first, so doing a second gear start means less likelihood of that beautiful TCS light coming on. That being said, going through turns, if you're in the same situation I'm in, you'll find yourself fishtailing a little.
If you're just looking to throw rocks and look like you've got more power... that little button with the traction control symbol with a line through it... and manual mode, first gear. (I got pulled over for injuring a pedestrian with it... I'm a bad person). Aside from that... just keep your eyes on the road and your foot through the floor.

injured a pedestrian? lmao... i got a question? am i the only person who when you turn the traction control off, the traction control system still catches it and wont let it spin?

Mine does the same. Basically, the off mode isn't a FULL off mode, it just cranks the sensitivity down majorly.
if you're looking for better traction, when you're at the stop, go into the manual mode, and shift up into second gear. also helps alot when you're stuck for keeping the wheels from just.. spinning.. because 2nd isn't capable of putting as much of that power down.
Still.. would be nice to complete disable TCS.

pretty sure that Trac control is managed by the ecu. the button really just tells the traction control unit to be less touchy. It would be badass to find an easteregg to turn it completely off. but at the same time...
with a frontwheel drive vehicle, we're reckoning with a few not-so-great issues. such as the fact that our steering, acceleration, AND braking are all being done on those front tires, so we're already beating them to hell just by going WOT regularly. I'm pretty sure GM is covering their asses insurance wise, and it saves them money on having to replace front end parts on new g6s because the owner decided to turn T/C completely off and go drifting. (best advice for if you want to go drifting in an 06 GT... let the rear tires wear out to 3/32nds or 1/16th. Mine're at 3/32nds. I still get great grip when i'm just casually cruising, and if i want to get sideways, it's just a matter of cranking the wheel and WOT).

thats why you put in a LSD...LSD>traction control. you get really good grip but if you wana burn out just drop the clutch and you can do either


Drift a FWD?

The question isn't as to which of the two (LSD and TRAC Control) is superior, some of us are running the automatic transmission (like myself) so there is no "drop the clutch". It's more of a question of whether we can turn our trac control completely off, which, for us, would be the equivalent of "dropping the clutch".

As to drifting a FWD, yes.
Doing little circles with a RWD is nothing special. getting your angles right to have your ass-end slipping out from behind you in a FWD while maintaining control takes a bit more skill. So, in my humble opinion, "FWD Drift > RWD fish-tail"

I still say an LSD would be better because you could do a real burn out if you just disabled traction control I'm sure it would just be a one wheel burn...just hope everyone is watching on the side that slips.



Well I know what you mean I have a ford escort that I can get sideways easier than my AWD subaru but Walking a RWD sideways for 3 blocks is what I'm talking about. In a FWD you might be able to go back and forth but your guna run out of speed eventually.

Seriously. The word "FAIL" comes to mind.
A) Burning out is not the same as drifting. sure, you can light up your tires for 3 blocks, "woop dee doo" I had an '89 Civic with NO LSD OR Trac Cont that could. Torque is not equivalent to style, Fat. Accept it.
B) Drifting = CONTROLLED sliding. Whether it be your ass-end catching up to you on a turn, or sliding sideways down a straight away.

Now. You can take your RWD comments, and scoot, because last I checked, the G6 was a FWD, and ONLY an FWD.

And I know that for the average joe, my comment was dead on. I'm not gloating in any sense. I'm stating, and presenting my case that yes, drifting a front wheel drive vehicle IS possible, and that it does involve more skill than drifting a rear wheel drive.
I was furthermore pointing out the fact that we're talking about G6s. How many people here have an LSD on their '6?


And on the subject of "irritating".... playing the "age" card, Paul.
I've got PLENTY of experience and know-how when it comes to driving.
I've also got the violation tickets to prove it, if you'd really like to look them up.
So, no more taking the condescending tone with younger people, just because of their age. O.K., Officer?
