so gtp's and gxp's have traction control with on/off but "off" isnt totaly off?
how hard would it be to make off be off?

i wonder how hard it would be to rip out the whole traction control system and put in a LSD? is the traction control part of the ecu or is it seperate?

pretty sure that Trac control is managed by the ecu. the button really just tells the traction control unit to be less touchy. It would be badass to find an easteregg to turn it completely off. but at the same time...
with a frontwheel drive vehicle, we're reckoning with a few not-so-great issues. such as the fact that our steering, acceleration, AND braking are all being done on those front tires, so we're already beating them to hell just by going WOT regularly.
thats why you put in a LSD...LSD>traction control. you get really good grip but if you wana burn out just drop the clutch and you can do either

I'm pretty sure GM is covering their asses insurance wise, and it saves them money on having to replace front end parts on new g6s because the owner decided to turn T/C completely off and go drifting. (best advice for if you want to go drifting in an 06 GT... let the rear tires wear out to 3/32nds or 1/16th. Mine're at 3/32nds. I still get great grip when i'm just casually cruising, and if i want to get sideways, it's just a matter of cranking the wheel and WOT).

Drift a FWD?

I think its kinda lame that there is so much lag before the traction control kicks in on most newer cars it instantaneous and you can hardly tell its kicking in in less you have the pedal to the floor and your not going anywhere.

The question isn't as to which of the two (LSD and TRAC Control) is superior, some of us are running the automatic transmission (like myself) so there is no "drop the clutch". It's more of a question of whether we can turn our trac control completely off, which, for us, would be the equivalent of "dropping the clutch".
I still say an LSD would be better because you could do a real burn out if you just disabled traction control I'm sure it would just be a one wheel burn...just hope everyone is watching on the side that slips.


As to drifting a FWD, yes.
Doing little circles with a RWD is nothing special. getting your angles right to have your ass-end slipping out from behind you in a FWD while maintaining control takes a bit more skill. So, in my humble opinion, "FWD Drift > RWD fish-tail" :rolleyes:
Well I know what you mean I have a ford escort that I can get sideways easier than my AWD subaru but Walking a RWD sideways for 3 blocks is what I'm talking about. In a FWD you might be able to go back and forth but your guna run out of speed eventually.

Seriously. The word "FAIL" comes to mind.
A) Burning out is not the same as drifting. sure, you can light up your tires for 3 blocks, "woop dee doo" I had an '89 Civic with NO LSD OR Trac Cont that could. Torque is not equivalent to style, Fat. Accept it.
When I said walking the car 3 blocks I was referring to a guy I saw pull out of a parking lot and slide his corvette C6 sideways at a 40 degree angle down the street for 3 or 4 blocks before straining out.

B) Drifting = CONTROLLED sliding. Whether it be your ass-end catching up to you on a turn, or sliding sideways down a straight away.
There have been comments about burning out with traction control off and with a open diff with traction off off like people have been asking, your going to only spin one wheel. which in my opinion isn't a burn out its like a half burn out. So if you completely disabled/removed the traction control system I would suggest a LSD if you still wanna accelerate fast.

Now. You can take your RWD comments, and scoot, because last I checked, the G6 was a FWD, and ONLY an FWD.
Well people are talking about "DRIFTING" a FWD its imposable...now you can get one sideways for fun fersure but your not guna be able to compete against a RWD. I'm not trying to say every ones wrong there just using "DRIFTING" as a general term, sliding a car around one or two corners isn't drifting, its fun but its not really drifting.

*edit* Also, you've successfully detracted from the original poster's question and turned this thread into a flame war. I know FWD. I know drifting. I know what takes skill, what doesn't. And I know that for the average joe, my comment was dead on. Now, since you're new, I'll be nice, and let you know that we're a calm, peace loving bunch, and that your comments ,specifically those provoking myself, are not appreciated, and to immediately cease and desist (in layman's terms: Pipe down, in n00b terms: stfu). We're here for questions, comments, and ideas about the G6, and I know for a fact that you have many of them. If you want to go off about how great your escort was, etc. go to the Gen. Disc. branch of the forum.
We are a little off topic but were still on the topic of tires and traction, and nobody's really given a hard core answer as to how to turn it off off.

THE ONLY 2 posts in here that's flaming is this last one of yours I'm quoting and this reply to it defending your flaming of my posts.

And about the ford escort its a piece if crap but was agreeing with you that a FWD can sometimes be easier to get sideways than a AWD or even a RWD car.
