I have read through other posts over and over, but can't find anything that helps. Thanks in advance for any links/advice!

I would like to upgrade the stock speakers in my 06 GTP. I am only interested in upgrading the stock speakers. I am probably selling my car soon and don't want to change the HU, monsoon amp, or add subs.

I don't mind spending a decent amount of money for some good replacements!

The stock speakers in the rear deck are special dual-coil design with four terminals. One coil is only for the bass and the rest for treble. Replacing them would require some fancy wiring to not sound like crap. One other problem is that the speakers are lower impedance (2 ohm) than common aftermarket speakers (8 ohm) so if you hooked up the new speakers you might notice a lot less volume out of the system.

Probably the only way around this if you still want to replace the speakers is to also replace the amp. You would have to use a 4-channel amp to maintain the balance and fader controls.

according to this wiring diagram
http://www.crutchfield.com/app/Support/KnowledgeBase.aspx?ifs=pontiac
The front speakers have a low and tweeter signal
The rear speakers have a low and mid signal

Is this correct?
I need 2 ohm, 2-way components for both ends...no problem

How many watts? I know if you over do the amp it will sound like crap and I know if you under do the amp it will sound like crap (or blow the speakers)

50 rms?

The front door speakers are separate components so they are easier to replace. It's only the rear speakers that are dual-coil. The crossover is built into the amp.

I've not seen any official documentation, but from what can be gathered searching the 'net it seems to be a 200-Watt total amp. So yes, 50 Watts RMS per channel.

Ohhh... I'm glad you mentioned that!

So the front tweeter is actually mounted seperately up higher.

I will just leave the 1" tweeters and replace the 6 3/4" "Subs"

I am just really surprised they run off a low signal. They seem to have a lot of mid-signal and vocals (still refering to the front speakers)
